CNC TIP! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you own a CNC machine, you know how tricky it can be to hold your pieces down while it’s being carved, especially small text and details like this. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Rather than trying to hold them all in place with tabs or double-sided tape on the back, we prefer to leave a thin layer of material at the bottom of the carve (~0.02”), which we then flip over and sand off from the back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Another option is to cut all the way through and let the spindle fling tiny wood bullets at you at 16,000 RPM... not our preferred option! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀. am•per•sand - If you’ve seen our stories today, you will have seen these ampersands being cut out of 1/4” clear, cast acrylic. - It’s always so satisfying removing a freshly cut piece from the CNC! - We’re not going to say what these will be just yet, but keep an eye on our feed over the coming days to find out! . Tancouver, BC . This 12” custom logo sign is for our Irish friend Deborah over @tancouver . . . Deborah approached us to see if we could make something Instagrammable for the “selfie-door” at her new spray tanning business in downtown #vancouver - No problem! . . This #timelapse shows how a two-stage carve works on our #CNC router. . . We start out with a 1/8” Astra-coated spiral downcut from @bitsbitscompany to rough out the bulk of the logo, then we move onto their 30 degree “V” bit to capture the super-fine details such as the small text. . For the sign, we used the @rustoleumca white ultra-coat primer, followed by two coats of their high gloss black. . . Once the paint has dried completely, we apply Oramask 813 stencil vinyl to the face of the sign then carve the logo onto the sign. . This process allows us to overspray @rustoleumca metallic gold on the logo without affecting the black background. ✨ . Keep an eye on our feed for the final photos over the next few days! .
