Scottish festival

Yesterday we drove from Aberfeldy to the Isle of Skye, via Glen Coe. The stark, rugged beauty of Glen Coe is awe-inspiring. What the photos can’t capture is how steep and sheer the mountainsides are, or the many small streams and waterfalls running down them—I lost track of how many times we said “I wish we had a better camera!” But even that wouldn’t have captured the feel of the place. The incredible vistas combined with the history of the massacre at Glen Coe give it a decidedly somber and sacred air. A truly spectacular and singular place. We arrived in Skye an hour before sunset, and so took a stroll from our hotel to a nearby beach, on the Southern end of Skye. It was a beautiful finale to a day I’ll never forget. By the time we made it back to our hotel, it was getting chilly and we were ready to be snug inside. As we drove across the bridge from the mainland to Skye, I put on “The Skye Boat Song” and the moment was so thoroughly lovely that I promptly burst into tears...which, admittedly, I had done several times before on the drive, every time a song with bagpipes came on (yes, I made a playlist of Scottish music for the drive, obviously.) Don’t know what it is about bagpipes that just make me weep! What I’m trying to say is, Scotland, you’re killing me with your history, majesty...and bagpipes. Don’t ever change. ♥️♥️
