Some more photos from my schools Battlefield Tour. 18 months to organise, a lifetime of memories for the children, as well as being an integral part of their GCSE. Reminds me why I do the job.
I always like to pay my respects to members of the units in which I had the honour to serve in both on operations and in the UK, namely the Monmouthshire Regiment and the Corps of Royal Engineers.

It’s been a privilege to meet the D-Day generation on the ground they fought for. I first came here in 1994, as a child; when the average Second World War veteran wasn’t much older than my parents are today. Now that page of history is gradually turning. But, for the moment, it’s still possible to say thank you to people who lived it firsthand. Grab the chance if you can.
Early start today after a even later finish. Four days doing northern France and taking in some of the battlefield sites... .

Some drone footage we took whilst at the @commonwealthwargraves #DelvilleWood Cemetery. Located near #Longueval, France, Delville Wood Cemetery is the third largest cemetery in the Somme battlefield area. It is the final resting place of over 5,500 servicemen of the First World War, of whom more than 3,500 remain unidentified.

I wanted to share these photos with you that were taken when we went on our western front tour in April. As the centenary of armistice is coming up, I will specially be thinking of my great Uncles, Gunner Thomas Harry Brett who died the 29th March 1917 and is buried at Douchy-Les-Ayette British cemetery. Also Private Alfred William Manning who died 27th April 1918 and is buried at Bellacourt Military cemetery. That trip will stay with me until my dying days, I have never been so moved what I witnessed on that tour, what those poor souls and not forgetting the animals went through.
I am just so grateful for the work that the commonwealth war graves commission does to keep these cemeteries and graves looking so immaculate. Even this week they buried two unknown Australians soldiers and one British soldier of the Lancashire Fusiliers at Tyne Cot cemetery in Belgium.
I shall certainly be wearing my poppy with pride especially knowing what my Uncles did for us ❤️
