This is every single woman in Australia right now.
This spectrum of emotion.
That another life could be taken so unimaginably.
But feeling these feels is no longer enough.
What are you doing today to honour Courtney Herron, and the other four women brutally killed in Melbourne in less than 365 days, and the other 25 women who have been killed since January and the countless and nameless women who live in fear every single day?
What on earth was a 25 year old woman doing living on the street?
Well she’s not the only one.
And she’s not the youngest.
As you wake up this morning, and safety use your facilities, and choose your clean clothing and pack your lunch and buy your coffee and ride on public transport and go to your job and know that at the end of the week you will be paid, and can afford to stop at Coles on your way home and cook yourself dinner and go to sleep in a bed with sheet and a blanket... as you do all of this, think about one thing you could do to honour the memory of a woman who was let down time and time and time again.
Think of all the women who don’t have the luxury of wearing clean clothes, or brushing their teeth in a bathroom that’s not also a public restroom.
This about how much to value your safety.
Think about it, please.
And do something. Don’t do nothing.
The time is now.
So here for this - by the fab @danidonovan How often do you hear folks who identify as female apologizing A LOT? Like.....a LOT. I love that slight tweaks of language can convey the same message whilst helping change behaviour. My fave is -
“Thanks for your patience” (gets a workout by me when I get behind on my emails ) #I was at an event with @alliealliem recently & she and I both observed every single woman in the audience who asked a question of a panel apologised. For something. Because they spoke loudly into the , because they spoke softly into the and just.... because. It was like an @amyschumer skit (except it was IRL with no lolz intended)
Next time you go to apologize, hesitate & think about if it’s useful. If someone runs into YOU in the shops, do you need to apologize? No, no you do not. If you ask a question at an event, no need to say sorry or apologize for being a total legend Tag a mate/colleague or BFF who needs this reminder! ♀️♀️♀️
