This little bee taught me something sad on this sunny Maine Friday. I was curious about its little tongue being out, and read that bees who die with their proboscis out die because they tried to collect pollen from a flower treated with pesticides. I wish this little friend hadn’t partaken of tainted goods, but it made my very happy that my nature driven yard has not seen a bottle of weed killer since I’ve been responsible for it. My neighbors may not love my ‘hands off’ landscaping approach, but my dandelion crop brings all the bees to the yard for a delicious, safe pollen feast, and that’s okay by me ✨
