@monkishbrewing Tinkerbell Beats DDH Double India Pale Ale. 8.4% With Galaxy, Riwaka and Mosaic hops. — It’s not Monkish Monday, but Thursday is the new Friday (or so I’ve been told) so let’s do another Monkish. Another thank you to my man @alexjhiner for this one. Let’s just start with that color. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I always pop the top of a can and take a quick glimpse inside. I’ve used this before, but this is like when Charlie peeled open a corner of the Wonka Bar to expose the Golden Ticket. The gold color shining in the sun is GORGEOUS! Carbonation is robust but the head is limited. The haze is perfect and muted pale yellow. Once you stop staring and get this to your nose, you’re greeted with grassy and citrusy hoppy goodness. In the mouth, the body is on the lighter side. Hops, biscuit and a bit chalky up front with sweet grapefruit (yes, there is such thing), grass, pineapple and pine following closely behind. It’s pretty dry, but the hops and the bitterness are balanced very well with the Galaxy sweetness and this baby is pound-able. The 8.4% is nowhere to be found. @monkishbrewing had a little run (at least in my opinion) where their beers weren’t phenomenal every week. They’ve righted the ship as this beer is once again Monkish magic. — #monkish #monkishbrewing #monkishbrewery #tinkerbellbeats #hazydipa #ddhdipa

@burleyoak I ain't done with y'all this week! I have thoroughly enjoyed the outcome of my trade with @savrage and might need to move down there so I can just regularly have J.R.E.A.M. in my life. This Orange Jreamsicle was exactly like a REAL creamsicle and that's right on par with my diet this Summer if you have JREAM send me someeeeeeeeee! Also shout-out to @kelsenbrewing for having sick t-shirts ~ Rachel

@monkishbrewing Flip Fly Flows DDH Double India Pale Ale. 8.6% With Galaxy and Nelson hops. — It’s been a while since I’ve been on the Monkish Monday express, but thanks to the generosity of @alexjhiner (), I’m back on board. Flip Fly Flows has a great pale yellow color out of the can with a 1/4 finger of quickly disappearing head and the most perfect haze. I’m talking PERFECT haze. The smell of this beer can most accurately be described as tropical hop juice. All hops and tropical fruit and it smells absolutely amazing. The mouthfeel is pillowy soft, creamy and super thick. The taste is pure hoppy goodness. Tongue tingling carbonation, but the hops are the show stopper here. I love hoppy beers and this one is giving me all I want. Hop kick, hop burn and hop burps, this one has it all. I’m not getting a lot of the Nelson, but the pineapple, peaches, cantaloupe and oranges give it plenty of juiciness. There is a hint (and just a hint) of booze and bitterness on the backend keeping everything nicely balanced and not leaning too far in any one direction. Yummy! Still haven’t made a Monkish can release in person yet, but my craft beer buds keep my @monkishbrewing train rolling. Cheers! — #monkish #monkishbrewing #monkishmonday #flipflyflows #ddhdipa #dipa #hazydipa

Finally settling in! I cannot believe I live in Charlotte NOW! I’m finally a Carolina girl once again!!! Grateful for Nash friends like @giantelmo that shared some great beers with me for long days of unpacking Hop Vision by @pizzaboybrewing is an oat based, singular hop series pale ale showcasing the beautiful American mosaic hop! Who doesn’t love mosaic with its usually fruity/floral/earthy characteristics!? @greatnotion @bottlelogicbrewing Power Struggle India Pale Ale. 7.5% DDH With Galaxy, Vic Secret, Citra and Sabro hops. — Bottle Logic makes great stouts. Great Notion makes great everything. However, this beer wouldn’t be getting near the ratings it is without @greatnotion being involved and on the can. By no means is it a bad beer, but it’s not a great beer either. Pours a classic pale straw yellow color out of the can. Not much head to speak of, no retention and no lacing. The nose is Galaxy dominant with tropical fruit, peaches, lemons and pineapple with a definite hop presence. Medium bodied in the mouth with a definite hoppy punch right off the bat. It’s not as juicy as I was expecting and was herby, oniony and a bit resinous. Pithy and bitter as well with a hint of basil. It’s almost as if the fruit wants to shine a little more, but the chalky bitterness keeps it from coming through fully. I think this beer had much more potential. Happy to have tried it (@krnabduljabar ), but wouldn’t be one I’d revisit. — #greatnotion #greatnotionbrewing #greatnotionpdx #bottlelogic #bottlelogicbrewing #powerstruggle #powerstruggleipa #ipa #hazyipa

@unsungbrewing Soul Queen Hazy Double IPA. 8.5% With African Queen hops. — I’m guilty! Guilty as charged. When you drink a lot of great beers, you begin to compare them to one another rather than judging the individual beers for what they are. I try to look at each one individually for what it is and what it’s about. But I admit that I’m guilty for comparing. Getting on to this beer, for those that follow me or check in from time to time, you know I love Unsung’s Nebuloid Series. It’s been one of the closest things to a sure thing that exists for a hazy IPA series. No hesitation when they come out and in my fridge they go. They’ve all been very good and worthy of a spot in your rotation. And then came Soul Queen. The latest in the series using African Queen hops. Say what? No Citra? No Galaxy? No Mosaic? No Nelson? Uh oh! I’ve seen some chatter about this one prior to buying it. The reviews were in and they weren’t very positive. So let’s get into this one and see what’s what. Out of the can, this isn’t the typical Nebuloid hazy. It’s golden yellow in color with a very thin thin thin layer of foam on the surface. Hazy? Um, not so much. Unfiltered or cloudy for sure, but not the typical haze of the Nebuloid Series. The nose is sweet and fruity. Overripe stone fruit, black currants, blueberries and passion fruit. Smells pretty good. Get it into the mouth and this one is interesting. Pretty sweet up front with overripe stone fruit, overripe apricots, black currants, blueberries, super sweet mandarin oranges and gooseberries. I’m also getting a little iced tea and crème de Cassis followed by some spice and pepper on the finish. It’s not super hoppy (bummer) but has very little booziness at all. It’s an easy drinker and I think it’s getting a raw deal by lots of folks. It’s different than many of the hazy DIPAs out there right now and that’s ok. I’d assume African Queen hops are new to a lot of folks and that is what is behind the not so favorable reviews/thoughts/comments. It’s a different hop with different tasting notes. I applaud @unsungbrewing for swinging for the fences here. It’s not the best from the series, but it’s tasty, different and refreshing. —

@otherhalfnyc Green City Festival Imperial India Pale Ale Version 1. 10.5% With Mosaic, Citra, Idaho 7, Cashmere and Citra Cryo hops. — Have to start this review off with a big, big thank you to my man @alexjhiner for this beer. Wouldn’t have gotten to try it if it wasn’t for him, so thank you! This beer is absolutely INSANE. Pours a light orange color into the glass, crude-like thick nectar, dense and opaque with a latte-like foam on top that is silky smooth. The nose is very strong with big notes of stone fruit, berries, coriander and light booze. Thick and full in the mouth with creamy fruit on the front end, dankness and a little booze on the backend and all kinds of magic in between. Wow! Mangos, rose petals, dried apricots, mandarin oranges, limes and blueberries up front while being earthy and dank on the swallow. It’s hoppy with just enough bitterness to balance out the sweetness of the fruit. One of those beers that you want to keep drinking so you can taste the magic, but at the same time you want it to last forever. We’ve all had those Triples that are too thin, too boozy, too syrupy or just an overall mess. This is pretty much the perfect TIPA and one of the very best beers I’ve had. I’ve heard and seen the term whale being thrown around for this beer or that beer, but this is a whale (in my opinion). Once you swallow each sip, you reach for the glass again. It’s every bit that good. One I’ll remember for a long, long time. Amazing stuff. — #otherhalf #otherhalfbrewing #otherhalfbrewery #greencityfestival #greencityfestivalversion1 #tipa
