"Our mind, body + spirit are so intimately linked that everything we experience is stored within us. Oftentimes, aches, pains + illnesses that seemingly come out of nowhere have an emotional, psychological or spiritual root, + coming back to our body can induce great healing.”
We’re still celebrating joy this month here at #BGIO + contributor, yoga + fitness instructor @lildonia.lawrence affirms that connecting with our body cultivates joy + personal power. #LinkInBio to read her suggestions to experience the euphoria that follows after a good workout.
Whether it’s a good twerk session in the mirror or taking a hike, what’s your favorite movement that brings you joy?

things that bring me joy —
conscious remembering that every. single. day. i have the capacity to CHOOSE my thoughts, actions, words, and responses. I am not a victim to any circumstance. am a creator. and I am powerful beyond measure.
summer in Los Angeles. every day feels like a vacation, even when i’m working. actually, especially when i’m working because i’m poolside and i’m doing what i love. i’m grateful to have a full week here before travel again. i’m continuing to create my home. nesting feels divine. i’m cultivating a chapter and a home that I have been praying and working towards for so long. and i’ve been attracting opportunities and people in alignment with my current unfolding. what a gift.
being in service to my community. every time I get to speak and engage with black women, share a @blackgirlinom podcast episode illuminating something important for our people, and exchange energy and movement whether yoga or meditation I light up. it’s then that i’m fully in my purpose and power. I give thanks that this is my path.

also, have you tuned into the latest @blackgirlinom episode with @evyan.whitney about sex, sexual trauma, the importance of therapy + self-awareness. it’s a very thoughtful and necessary conversation that a lot of us shy away from given social constructs around the way women should perform or how we should express ourselves.
tune into episode 42 on our bgio podcast.
and lastly, @rikkwright thank you for this amazing image. this is my mood all summer honey:
feeling at home in my body.
thriving in the sun.
resting in the goodness of God.
and trusting that all things are working for my good.

poured ya'll up a cup of hot sex on the latest episode of the @blackgirlinom podcast ☕️
my friend and pleasure sister @evyan.whitney joined @deunivory and I to destigmatize pleasure and honestly it's going to be the first conversation of many related to sexuality because so many of us are repressed and traumatized and I'm on a healing journey from both as I'm sure so many of you are. we need more spaces for black women and femmes who have been harmed by rape culture, patriarchal myths of what "good girls" do and don't do, and overall misinformation about what a loving, enjoyable sexual relationship with yourself, let alone with another, feels like. i first opened up about how the first place I was able to fully sit with, be heard and *held* about my experiences with sexual assault was on retreat in Bali with 21 other women of color. and now, on our podcast. heard, affirmed, and held by all of you. so, yeah, #metoo.
thank you to our global community of listeners for already sharing with us how much this episode means to ya'll. we did this for and with you. and thank you to my #bgio work wife and cohost deun for your phenomenal commitment to supporting black women heal from sexual trauma and cultivate wholeness with @thebodyahomeforlove.
ahem -- what do y'all think about evyan's theory about the throat chakra and the D? #ithinkiagree #consentissexy #sexualliberation
Never forget — our wellness practices run deep. Born of Nigerian and Bahamian heritage, Nuola Akinde (@nuolamama) draws on her ancestral wisdom to create Cosmically Black rituals for holistic wellness. Looking to channel change, rebirth and strength, Nuola encourages us to call on Oya through specific adornments. Want to cultivate clarity at the top of your day? Honor your Ori through ritual. #LinkInBio for several divine Yoruba Rituals for Self-Actualization. You’ll want to save this, one ☝ Who lives by Yoruba teachings? My loves, I’m back in the states after 2.5 weeks in SE Asia (Indonesia and Thailand) and after one week of jet lag I am feeling renewed! My word for 2019 is REJUVENATION — what’s yours? In addition to stretching, a restorative massage, and a soak in an epsom salt bath, I have been very intentional about what I *eat* as I transition back to US soil. Plant-based goodness is abundant in LA, where I’ve been since getting back, and so I have been gravitating towards seasonal eating. Eating seasonally is aligned with my intention of rejuvenation because seasonal produce is picked when it’s ripe (life-giving!), while out-of-season veggies and fruit are picked before they have ripened (womp, womp). Eating more nutritious and tasty foods are also aligned with my overall intention to feel — and look — good, period. In partnership with @hm, this week of wellness is focused on nutrition. I’m wearing this #HMSport bra that was waiting for me when I got to LA and it’s my new fave. I can’t wait to see my Chicago community in a week at our final BGIO Self-Care Sunday in partnership with @HM! Click our bio link to shop now at www.hm.com. #HMxME #Ad ▫️▫️▫️

New Year, Best You isn’t about perfection, or striving for some unattainable ideal. Our team lives by The 4 Agreements which means we practice the tenet “Always Do Your Best. Today.” BGIO Self-Care Sunday is partnering with @hm for a full wellness takeover for the month of January. This week, Akudo Mez (@akudoamazing) guides us closer towards identifying our personal best — right now, in this moment — in relation to our mental wellness and self-love. Get inspired by what we discover by peeking at our IG Stories from our first Chicago SCS of the year and click the link in our bio to shop this look from H&M’s new sport collection at hm.com. #HMSport #HMxME #Ad ▫️▫️▫️
