So, I got to hug Donnie Wahlberg last night. Let me back up. In 1989 I saw the New Kids On The Block in person for the first time. I was 12. To say I was obssessed is an understatement. Do kids today get obsessed over pop stars like we did? Or are they jaded because they have all the pictures and videos instantly at their finger tips? This was before Instagram, or instant videos on YouTube. My best friend and I watched satellite concerts and VHS tapes and bought tons of BOP magazines to get our fix. My wallpaper WAS the New Kids On The Block carefully ripped from BOP magazines that I spent all my money on. There were no stories on Instagram. I don't know if my 12 year old self could have regulated myself in a healthy way if we had had Instagram. Let's be honest. But, we were obsessed. My Dad, bless his heart, took me and my sister and our two best friends to their concert. It was a two hour drive to Dallas, but he did it because that's what dads do. There were tears. And, I'm sure my horrible seats didn't matter to me because I was in the same room as NKOTB. Fast forward 30 years and I bought a ticket again. To be in the same room with these 5 men that are now in their late 40's and 50's. Seems silly doesn't it? I had called my best friend in another state and asked her if she would come fly out and go with me. OF COURSE SHE WOULD. We picked the best seats we could afford without being totally irresponsible, and when we sat down there was a red X on the floor. We knew someone would be VERY close to us. Sure enough, Donnie hopped on a box, and sang right next to us. Then he jumped down grabbed us and gave us a sweaty bear hug. Thank you to the guy behind me that caught this clip of the hug because my phone is just a shot of Donnie's armpit as he's grabbing us. He's a 50 year old happily married man now, and I'm a grown 41 year old woman that's also happily married with three kids. But, there was something insanely awesome about all of it. I'm sure it seems silly to some people that these grown women are still selling out stadiums to see their teenage boy crushes that they were sure they were going to marry. (Cont. In comments)
