Last night was a surreal evening for me one that I don't think I have ever experienced. It was a night without noise and by that I mean the only thing I could hear was my heart beating and my brain whirring. Generally my tent is rustling, leaves are dancing or insects are chirping but the world outside was at - 0.5dB.
I was reading a book in my tent at about 9pm and I could feel the wind dying down and decided I would pop my head out to see how the stars looked. They were brilliant only 2 hours after sun set, however there was a crescent moon sitting on the horizon that was lighting up the whole valley. I decided I would wait an hour or so till that set to go take some photos as I wanted it to be dark. I crept back into my tent, start reading again and within 5 minutes I passed out. And this is when it happened I woke up at 2 am due to the incredible silence in the valley. The crinkle of my sleeping mat as I wiggled was deafening, my heart sounded like a natural drum and I naturally opened the zipper slowly as it was so loud. I climbed outside my tent grabbed my camera gear and it was wierd how I was trying to be as quiet as possible not to wake up this silence as I felt invasive to this strange noiseless place.
I got my Camera set up, started taking some photos messing around with the light/settings/compositions until I was happy with a shot. Towards the end I was taking this photo and was shining my light towards the tree near my tent and I kid you not eyes were blinking back at me from the base of the tree. It was nothing exciting just a plain domestic cat from a small finca nearby but for a long moment in all that silence I thought I was completely alone however I was right to trod quietly as there was something peacefully sleeping right next to where I slept.

After our night camping in the Adobe Ruins we had an easy ride the next day in Susques. This was sadly where I parted ways with @isaontour as she made her way back into Argentina and I moved towards the Chilean border. Normally people ride from Susques to Chile via Paso Jama but I had been told so much about #PasoSico that I wanted to cross into Chile via that route. There is a joining road that heads to Catua (last town on the argentinian side) via the ruta 70b and it was of surprisingly good quality which is great for my first pass over 4500meters. The ride was stunning filled with a multitude of Llama families but zero human beings.
The only tricky thing about riding here is you have to navigate between the cold of mornings and epic winds in the afternoon. It's hard to get out of your sleeping bag when it's freezing outside but so painful to push against head winds after a long day riding in altitude. Fortunately I managed to leave early enough and I arrived at the border crossing around 3pm just as the wind was picking up. Becuase of the remoteness of the border crossing it has a hostel situation going on which allows you to stay the night for free before setting off the next day.
