Stamp of approval?
.
We tried something a little different over the weekend
.
We’ve been sending out lots of boxes recently and would like to step-up our packaging game by making a custom stamp with our #cnc .
.
We wanted to try a few different sizes, so we purchased a block of “Moo Carve” and figured out how many stamps we could get from one block.
.
Our verdict: the Moo Carve seems to be a little too soft for carving with a CNC. The larger stamps came out ~okay~ but the smaller stamps (not pictured) lost a lot of detail. Also, there was quite a bit of clean-up to do once the carve was complete.
.
For our purposes, these three will work for now but we would like to try again with another material. . “Either you win, or you learn”
.
If you have tried making a stamp with your CNC, do you have any tips for our next attempt?
.
What did you make over the weekend?
.
The project deets:
Material: “Moo Carve” Professional carving block.
Endmill: 30 degree engraving bit from @bitsbitscompany.
CNC: @inventables #xcarve
Music: “Sunset Lover” by @petitbiscuit .

CNC TIP! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you own a CNC machine, you know how tricky it can be to hold your pieces down while it’s being carved, especially small text and details like this. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rather than trying to hold them all in place with tabs or double-sided tape on the back, we prefer to leave a thin layer of material at the bottom of the carve (~0.02”), which we then flip over and sand off from the back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Another option is to cut all the way through and let the spindle fling tiny wood bullets at you at 16,000 RPM... not our preferred option! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀.
What are your go-to CNC tips for work holding or otherwise? We’d love to hear them! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We have to give credit to David Picciuto @makesomethingtv - he’s the first person we saw using this sweet tip! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀.

Unmasking ♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s a quick look at our process of removing paint masking from an engraved sign.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Removing masking is one of those tasks that can take a long time to do, but the satisfaction you get when it’s all done is REAL! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What tasks do you do that are not the most entertaining, but get great satisfaction out of seeing the final results? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Like the #makercommunity on Instagram, our little community in #steveston village is all about helping each other out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After seeing our work on IG, @portholesteveston reached out to see if we could create a hanging sign of the beautiful logo they created - absolutely! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ll post some final pictures once the sign is complete and installed @portholesteveston . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re ever in Steveston, make sure to drop by @portholesteveston for some fine wines, craft beers, and tapas! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

First badge done! I saw @bates_woodworking badges a couple months ago and was amazed at the work they did. I knew I wanted to do these for my department and for other fellow officers. This is a retirement gift, but as a police officer, I’d welcome this gift at any time in my career. The badge measures 18” long by 12.75” wide and a little over 1.5” thick. It’s made out of solid cherry. This was a fun project, but also a project that meant a lot to me.
For your badge order, DM me for a quote.
CNC: @inventables #xcarve
CNC Bits: @bitsbitscompany 60 degree white side and their 30 degree fang.
Finish: @generalfinishes Arm-R-Seal semi-gloss. I may have finally found my finish with this finish. Looks greats when dry, dries fast and is super easy to apply.

We hope everyone survived yesterday’s IGpocalypse! ☄️
.
What did you do to cope without Social Media?
.
We took the time to get some final shots of these two 18” Baltic birch name wreaths for our friend Alyssa over @munchiemugcanada ! .
.
Since Alyssa was born and raised in our little village (Steveston, BC ) we thought it was only fitting to use the historic wood boardwalk as the backdrop for these shots! ✨
.
We can’t wait to see these hanging in Eva and Charlie’s bedrooms , Alyssa! .
.
Also, if you have young children, get yo’self some snack cups from @munchiemugcanada ! .
.
As parents of two messy little twin boys, our Munchie Mugs have been a lifesaver; we just ordered two more!

If you’ve seen our stories today, you will have seen these ampersands being cut out of 1/4” clear, cast acrylic.
-
It’s always so satisfying removing a freshly cut piece from the CNC!
-
We’re not going to say what these will be just yet, but keep an eye on our feed over the coming days to find out!
.
Since we often get asked, we used the “blue tape and CA glue” trick to attach the acrylic to our spoil board.
.
Let us know in the comments if you’ve never heard of it and we’ll let you know how it works!
.
What tips and tricks do you use to make your workflow more efficient? ⏰ .

2 Flute DownCut CNC Router Bits! The bit in the picture is a 1/8 tip diameter with 1” length of cut 420-DNC125LR The flutes on these bits are designed to push the chips downward, DownCut bits are great for dado, pocket and inlay work as well as cutting out your wood piece on most projects in hard and soft wood, they will also leave a smooth bottom surface.
Our DownCuts are coated with a proprietary *HP Astra coating* that allows higher speed & feed rates as well as extended tool life & increased lubricity for chip removal! Thank @woodnbrew_ for sharing this project with us ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖#Repost @woodnbrew_ ・・・
