If there’s a group of young, black & gifted men to support in L.A. it would be the @comptoncowboys . They’re actively changing the narrative on what it means to be a black cowboy in a predominantly “white rodeo.” Check out their page to see them take over the hood and solidify their place in the western rodeo circuit!

Given the recent opposition involving @lilnasx --- I think its appropriate to remind people that their perception does not constitute as reality. Though society would have you believe that the American West is an all-white narrative, history would show otherwise. Black people were cowboys, country singers, and more. This is why representation matters! The picture created by mass media contributes to the erasure of our presence.
.
This is also one of the reasons I created my shop. Fashion is an ideal medium for opening up a dialogue and delivering a message. And with every purchase, proceeds go to sponsoring minority rodeo participants in an effort to increase our awareness and visibility. "Most things country and western, such as cowboys, music, and fashion, are widely linked to white men". These images, however, completely contradict that historically 1 in 4 cowboys were black, with descendents, family members, and counterparts who currently wear @wrangler amongst other western fashions. And though they may not be chart topping -- a good deal of black country artists exist today. Representation is fundamental in reducing prejudice, discrimination, and just flat out bias'. #blackcowboy #blackcowgirl #representation #representationmatters #blackrodeo #blackcowboysexist #rodeoretold

Hello All!
My name is Raemia Clemons, and I am a 20 year old from the small town of Plumerville, Arkansas “WOO PIG!”. All my life I’ve lived on a small farm with my family where we tended to and cared for our animals. I’ve always loved the outdoors -- from hunting to fishing to mudding and camping. My daddy carried me on his hip as he watered horses and bottle-fed calves. He was a first-generation Cowboy who passed down his love for horses to me. I was always riding. I even went to a few rodeos growing up, but I was never old enough to compete. Eventually life happened, and things changed which cost us our rodeo lifestyle. But although we weren’t on the road, my father always made sure I had a horse to ride. Riding horses has always been an escape from reality for me. And no matter how many times I fell off or was frustrated, I kept on. This is how I knew I had a true love and passion for horses the cowboy way of life.
My senior year of High School I knew I wanted to compete in a rodeo, but I didn’t have a horse, trailer, or anything to start with. I felt lost, but I was DETERMINED to get there. I ended up reconnecting with a woman who taught me barrel racing back in 2016, expressed my passion to her, and ever since then everything has fallen into place. I currently travel the country and compete within the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo Association. My family and friends have been doing everything possible to support me. We currently have 2 horses, one in training and the other owned by my mentors. I’m also in the process of buying my own truck and trailer, and soon another horse! To anybody that feels like it may be too late to start rodeo – IT’S NOT. I didn’t learn to barrel race until I was 17 and didn’t enter my first rodeo until last year! You can do it, just PRAY, keep the FAITH and press on no matter what. If you can dream it - you can do it!! Stay dedicated and don’t give up!
