When I met Chance, my mindset was, “Give as much as I can so he’ll stay...”⠀
⠀
I held him all the way down, so much so that I found myself being trafficked by a man that I loved. ⠀
⠀
That’s an extreme example, (read how it started in my book) but some of y’all are giving your all and forgetting that relationships are about give and take. ⠀
⠀
You shouldn’t be anyone’s doormat to get them to want you, value you, or decide that you’re wife material. ⠀
⠀
Stop running around, taking care of him like his mama to keep him ⠀
⠀
Dating is a time to get to know someone, find out your mutual likes and desires, find out if you’re compatible, find out if you really “like” each other’s company, and slowly but surely, build a future from there where you both pour into a healthy relationship. ⠀
⠀
If you’ve jumped past dating to “wife-ing” STOP!! ⠀

⠀
Drop if you’re dating with purpose!!!
Celebrating another of my #BookCon treasures — The World Doesn’t Require You by @reeamilcarscott available August 20, 2019!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Summary: The World Doesn’t Require You announces the arrival of a generational talent. In creating his very own Yoknapatawpha County with the fictional Cross River, Maryland, Rion Amilcar Scott shatters rigid genre lines to explore larger themes of religion, violence, and love―all told with sly humor and a dash of magical realism.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Established by the leaders of the country’s only successful slave revolt in the mid-nineteenth century, Cross River still evokes the fierce rhythms of its founding. In lyrical prose and singular dialect, a saga beats forward that echoes the fables carried down for generations―like the screecher birds who swoop down for their periodic sacrifice, and the water women who lure men to wet deaths.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Among its residents―wildly spanning decades, perspectives, and species―are David Sherman, a struggling musician who just happens to be God’s last son; Tyrone, a ruthless Ph.D. candidate whose dissertation about a childhood game ignites mayhem in the neighboring, once-segregated town of Port Yooga; and Jim, an all-too-obedient robot who serves his Master. As the book builds to its finish with Special Topics in Loneliness Studies, a fully realized novella, two unhinged professors grapple with hugely different ambitions, and the reader comes to appreciate the intricacy of the world Scott has created―one where fantasy and reality are eternally at war.
When I first saw the book Black Girls Must Die Exhausted circulating on social media, I just KNEW I had to have it in my hands! The title SCREAMED “This is my life!” and I can’t wait to read it next month!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Book Synopsis: BLACK GIRLS MUST DIE EXHAUSTED (BGMDE) is something that 33-year-old Tabitha Walker has heard her grandmother say before. Of course, her grandmother (who happens to be white) was referring to the 1950’s and what she observed in the nascent times of civil rights. With a coveted position as a local news reporter, Marc– a “paper-perfect” boyfriend, and a standing Saturday morning appointment with a reliable hairstylist, Tabitha never imagined how this phrase could apply to her as a black girl in contemporary times – until everything changed. An unexpected doctor’s diagnosis awakens Tabitha to an unperceived culprit, threatening the one thing that has always mattered most – having a family of her own.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While simultaneously confronting the everyday experience of race, complex modern relationships and a workplace rival who feels entitled to her position, she must leverage the power of laughter, love, and courageous self-care to bring a healing stronger than she ever imagined – before the phrase “black girls must die exhausted” takes on a new and unwanted meaning in her own life.
