When I reflect on my second Mother's Day, I can't help but think about all of the women and mothers that have literally extended a hand to me on this new journey. Just the other day a retired woman who didn't have children held and entertained my restless child for the duration of a solo flight - a mother. My neighbor is continually keeping me up to date on all of the LATEST and GREATEST toddler finds - a mother. Friends that are mothers being loving examples - I see you. Becoming a mother gives me the opportunity each day to become a better person. Better behavior. Better words. Better intentions. Better actions. Becoming a mother has made me more particular about who I am and who I'm NOT. Being a mother has shown me more love and smiles than I've ever experienced in my LIFE. I'm grateful. Happy Mother's Day! This picture won’t mean much to most— but to my mamas, my breastfeeding mamas & my breast pumping WHILE working mamas it will mean EVERYTHING. It hasn’t been easy and there were months of blistered and bleeding nipples, engorgement and pain but I didn’t quit. And thanks to my ‘Breastfeeding Support Group for Black Moms’ on FB, I have learned SO much. 6 months down and 6 months to go... this half way mark feels like a huge accomplishment and knowing that all of my hard work and dedication is fueling my sweet baby is such a proud feeling. To my mamas who are in the early struggle, keep going & don’t quit... #tbt to one of my FAVORITE breastfeeding pics I took with my son. He was a month away from being 2 here. We all know that toddlers are supper picky eaters. So much so that there are many drinks on the market to give them so they can have the vitamins and minerals they need. Did you know that your breastmilk contains all the vitamins and minerals (and them some) that those drinks contain and it's FREE!!! Your breastmilk doesn't turn into water after six months with no nutritional value. The average age of weaning is 2-7yrs of age. Depends on the child. Little did I know that my son would wean 7 months later. So glad I was able to capture this moment.
