It seems that some of us have difficulty negotiating & charging our full #fee. Or even charging enough. You are not charging for the amount of time to do a job but the years of experience, #training, expertise & 1 of a kind experience you bring that allow you to do a certain job. In the past, I was afraid of charging my full fee for fear that they would not want to hire me and for also thinking I didn't deserve it. The Lord has given me certain gifts that I undervalued for too long. Oh but not anymore. I am extremely #confident in sharing my full fee. And I make no apologies. Now, do I offer slight discounts & do some pro bono work from time to time- YES! (As I might be led to do so or I might see value in ways) There have been many times when I shared my full fee & the first response was something like "that's a little outside of our budget" And a few days later they contacted me saying they could pay it. I now also hear things like "just give us your fee & we will make sure to get it covered" or "you are gifted. That's why you can charge that" And as a friend said "Remember that everyone is not meant to be your client." BTW -I DO NOT do anything for money first. I've been there & don't ever want to be there again! Do you know your value? Sharing my journey is always an interesting process. I always try to reflect, give people value, be authentic, share the wins but also share the losses. . For every win there are probably 20 losses or more - and social media doesn't paint the full picture. . Experience really is the best teacher - as much as I love and advocate for institutional education, go out there and learn for your self, then try and test it! You will learn more in 3-6 months than you probably would in 18 months in a classroom, find the balance. . CHOOSE your team right! You are better off with 5 people on your team spinning multiple plates, than 10 people with individual tasks who aren't the right fit for your company, your vision or you! . After all..keep pushing! It’s FRIDAY, I survived my first week of grad school (barelyyy, but I made it through ), I sat for my candidacy exam last Thursday and Friday after intensive studying, and I feel pretty confident (even had a dream last night that I passed) AND most importantly my family, friends and social network are AMAZING! . . Starting a company/ a start-up is hardwork!! I mean it's eating, drinking and breathing your start-up. I personally think entrepreneurship has been and can easily be romanticized and literally not prepare one mentally for what they are embarking on/up against! . But the question will always be what inspires you? How long are you willing to work? How long are you willing to wait? How resilient are you? How resourceful are you? How smart can you work? . Reading up about Slack's IPO and journey to this date - is very inspiring yes, but we will only read the highlights now. .
