Prisoners. 2013. Directed by Denis Villeneuve. . . . . The success of a film in my opinions is when that film causes a wave of emotions leaving you thinking about what you just watched. Villeneuve provided just that with his 2013 Prisoners which seemed to come out of no where! Led my the always incredible Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman, this story sadly hits home to a huge percentage of people due to its depiction of child kidnapping. I vaguely remember seeing the trailer for this one which means I went into it blindly as most of you should if you haven’t seen this yet. Every parents fear is to look away for a short amount of time and having a child go missing and Villeneuve creates just that fear. On top of this powerful story, Roger Deakins creates a masterfully shot film with some absolutely breathtaking images! The trifecta of Gyllenhaal, Villeneuve, and Deakins is one to go down in history and I pray we get to see these three men work together again. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Denis Villeneuve is a force to reckon with and has already made a name for him self with his incredible works. The wait for Dune is starting to become apparent but films like this are a reminder to be patient and allow the genius to work. We are truly in for something special with Villeneuve‘ a Dune. . . .
