Do you need some resources to overcome the constant barrage of thoughts about eating? Do you feel out of control when it comes to food? Do you want to be in control? Do you want to take back the control? I have really been led this direction. I have just found myself finding books and Information that are teaching how to stop the compulsive urges that come from our brains. Our brains aren’t the enemy but they do need re-training and re-direction to help heal. Years of overeating and giving into urges has caused our body to LOSE dopamine receptors, so I.e we are deriving far less satisfaction from our food. We actually eat and find ourselves not getting the flush of dopamine we need to feel satisfied, so we eat more, and get nothing and eat more and still we aren’t filled.
There is hope. You are not a victim! You don’t have to solve every childhood trauma BEFORE you can be free of compulsions with food. As a matter of fact, right now is the time to stop these urges, the more you give in, the deeper the neural pathways you form with these bad habits! They are bad habits, not a result of trauma, not everyone develops bad habits after trauma.
The good news is that you can control these urges, take away their power and lessen their intensity.
Start with these resources. The urges podcast is a quick start to get your mind shifting gears. Then read Brain over Binge (loved it in audiobook). , bc it is key to recognizing that YOU ARE NOT BROKEN and can change this. Then I am finding so many correlations in the Brain lock book (which is specifically for treating OCD) but tools you can use for your food unwanted food urges/compulsions. Re-wire, re-train and gain healthy control over the food in your life.

When I read Brain Lock by Jeffrey Schwartz it really hit home to me that "it's not me, it's my OCD." Just the evidence alone on these brain scans is extraordinary! I realise that connecting too excessively with our labels can keep us a bit stuck but just recognising that this is a tricky beast we're fighting, separate from who we really are, allows us to be kinder to ourselves and work better through the therapy. And in this book Schwartz talks us through the 4 Rs for recovery - Relabel the intrusive stuff as OCD, Reattribute it to a disorder in the brain and not me, Refocus to another activity and Revalue to see the situation for what it is and attend to my goals. This book really helped me and I totally recommend it!
