I guess this is the part where I say that seeing the Taj Mahal was like a dream come true and that I am sooo blessed for this opportunity . . …I’m going to skip this part of the caption because you’ve already read it on Instagram 1001 times. . The truth is, I HAVE wanted to see the Taj Mahal for many years. Just like I wanted to see Machu Picchu, Christ the Redeemer, and the other acclaimed world wonders. . But since the rise of Instagram, I can’t say that I really “saw” these sights. I had to fight harder to UNSEE all the pictures of this place so that I could really be present with what was in front of me. . The Taj Mahal is an exquisite work of art: it’s perfectly symmetrical, strategically and romantically located on the banks of the Yamuna River, and its ivory-white marble walls are intricately carved with countless mosaics. It is such a majestic structure and it deserves every bit of its fame. . That being said… I didn’t enjoy having line up at the crack of dawn just to get “the shot.” I resented that by 6 AM, the place was flooded with tourists crowding each other’s space to get the best selfie. When contrasted against the grandiosity that was before us, the experience felt void. Fake. Cheapened. And I don’t know how to get it back. . To me, the most memorable moments in India were not when I got to see “must do” places. It was the in-between, when the pressure to capture and share the moment was lifted. . It was when we met a Tuk Tuk driver who took us to the slums he lived in to eat with his family and dance to Bollywood music. It was when 2 Indian boys took us on a tour around a temple and protected us from the cheeky monkeys. It was when we were clearly lost in the middle of Delhi’s hectic streets and an older Indian gentleman befriended us and escorted us back to safety. . Those are the moments that matter in my travels. The stories that I want to tell. . When it comes to Instagram — am I part of the problem? Absolutely. No doubt about that. . But I also wish to be part of the solution. I take photos around the world because it genuinely brings me joy. And, it holds your attention (hopefully) for just long enough for... . CONTINUED IN COMMENTS

Some of you may recognize this little computer here from my daily doodle from yesterday! I decided to use it for the cover of the latest episode of @thedesignbreak podcast! • One thing that most people don’t realize about content creators (those who create YouTube videos, podcasts, blog posts, etc) is that for many of us, its predominately just us working on the content creating everything. • Luckily with this podcast I have an amazing editor who helps me by editing the podcasts and sharing some of her key take aways (Nuggets of Wisdom) which is a huge huge help! Big Shoutout to @loreannevaron!!! • Last weekend I had planned to spend a whole day doing nothing but recording new episodes, creating cover art for episodes and preparing some new content that’s going to be coming out real soon but I couldn’t because I had a last minute fire that I had to put out with a client that consumed the majority of my weekend. • Hence the reason the podcast came out today vs Wednesday. • Creating your own content is fun, its a blast but don’t ever think that its easy everyone! And lets also be clear, no one pays me for the content I put out for the most part. I generate a little ad revenue from YouTube but thats less than $100 in 3 months. I do all of this, all of this content to help people and admittedly to bring in new business or speaking engagement when they come but for the most part its all because I want to help as many people as possible hit their goals and dreams. • Wow this was a bit of a rant and I don’t expect you all to read it but if you get this far please, if you haven’t already, follow @thedesignbreak, subscribe to the podcast and if you like what you hear leave a rating or review! You’ll probably have noticed from yesterday’s stories that I had a brand shoot @theforgebristol with the superb @katieclintonconsulting; make up by the very clever @me_swmakeupartist. It warmed my soul to work in such a fabulous creative space, worlds away from my old office environment, with two people who are working so hard to build and make a success of their brands. Two people from whom I can take inspiration and who understand the journey I’m on without the need to necessarily talk about any one part of it at any great length. We are three diverse trades yet topics such as pricing, branding, motherhood, even social media (!) were relevant to us all. Thanks both for being such great sports. . .
