I think it is pretty common knowledge these days that deep breathing can help you manage anxiety but how helpful is this information if no one teaches you how to breathe?! .
Wait, we all innately know how to breathe. Why do you need to learn how to breathe?
.
Because deep breathing isn’t just forcing a large amount of air in and out... and 99% of our daily breaths are shallow and in our lungs. .
Here are some steps to make sure you are taking the most effective breath using your belly and less of your chest. Chest breathing is often associated with panic attacks, so it’s important to get that breath out of your chest and into you belly!
.
It may feel awkward at first because it is new! Try for 6-10 rounds and enjoy the calming effect.
.
Do you use breathing to fight anxiety ?
1️⃣ LEFT Nostril Breathing:
Activates soothing lunar energy and the qualities of patience and letting go. Do left nostril breathing to relax, calm the mind, and cool the nerves.
Use any time you wish to RELAX and before going to bed.
Stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and right hemisphere of the brain.
-
HOW TO: Block the right nostril with the right thumb and inhale and exhale through the left nostril only, using long deep breathing.
Benefits:
▪️Calming / relaxing
▪️Cooling
2️⃣ RIGHT Nostril Breathing:
Energizes and alleviates irritated, depressed, or unbalanced mental and emotional states.
It activates solar energy and the qualities of strong will and the ability to take action and keep up.
Use if you are tired, falling asleep, and need more ENERGY.
Activates the sympathetic nervous system and the left hemisphere of the brain.
-
HOW TO: Block the left nostril with the left thumb and inhale and exhale long and deeply through the right nostril only. Or do Breath of Fire through the right nostril for a quick boost of energy.
Benefits:
▪️Energizing
▪️Heating
▪️Cleansing
-
Humans breathe primarily out of just one nostril at a time. This pattern of switching from breathing out of one nostril to the other happens in a cyclical fashion, with about four hours or so between each switch. With practice yogis can master switching the flow without using fingers to block the other nostril!!!!!!! #anxietyrelief #energizer #findbalance #calmyourmind

Have you felt how deeply healing and nourishing the breath can be for your mind and nervous system when you slow it down? ✨ Take a moment right now, deepen your inhale (4, 3, 2, 1) and lengthen your exhale (5, 4, 3, 2, 1). Do this a few times (at least 3!). Now, how do you feel? Let us know below, help inspire this amazing community to feel into a few deep breaths. It’s good for the soul
I've recolored and redesigned my anxiety workbook. I am IN LOVE. You can fill it our right from your computer using Adobe reader, use it as a template for your journal, or print it out! There's also a black and white version for easy printing.

Go figure that working on it the last few days has totally put my current anxious state into perspective. My current mantra is one day at a time, one step at a time.
