so if you know me you know I can sometimes be a little strong willed (read stubborn). if I want something, if I believe in something, I’m going for it, and I’m setting some big expectations for myself. I’ve done things that I don’t even want to do, just because I said I would do them, and I didn’t want to quit - a story of how I ran 3 half marathons. this business is my dream, my big hairy audacious goal, and I spared no expense in setting some even bigger expectations of myself. as I looked at my registration last night, I felt like a failure, my classes weren’t full - but hello, I haven’t even taught a class yet! I have zero reputation and everyone who’s signed up is taking a huge chance on me. so I’m choosing to celebrate that, you guys, for taking a chance on this mama with a big dream. and to let go of those big expectations, because the only one holding me to those, was me. after all, I’m a mom, on mat leave who started a growing business so that’s pretty rad. ✌

There’s this thing I always used to do. When I bumped into people I hadn’t seen in a while. ⠀ ⠀ I’d have a moment of panic because maybe I’d gotten “fatter” or “bigger” since we last saw each other. (Old language - to be clear. I’ve moved past this.) ⠀ ⠀ Was it 5 years since we’d been together in person? ⠀ 10 years?⠀ 2 years? ⠀ ⠀ Fuck, I’ve put on weight. They’re going to notice and think I’ve gone downhill ⠀ ⠀ Do you ever do this? ⠀ ⠀ You know what? I AM different than the last time we saw each other. Definitely. ⠀ ⠀ My body is different, sure. Depending on what’s happening in my life - I could be 15-20 pounds different at any given season. I could be pre baby, post baby, with baby, having a tough time at life, be overly stressed, have a personal or medical challenge... who the hell knows. Bodies often take a hard hit when we’re overwhelmed. ⠀ ⠀ But what’s probably changed the most is my head. What I’ve learned, how I’ve developed, how I’ve grown as a person, woman, mom, friend, leader. ⠀ ⠀ You don’t see that stuff, but it’s all there and makes up the biggest component of who I am. ⠀ ⠀ You know what else? ⠀ That person is not judging you or your value based on what your body looks like now, vs then. You’re doing that to yourself. ⠀ (Or at least, I know I was.) ⠀ ⠀ Maybe they notice, if they’re reeeeeally observant. But noticing is different than judging. And if your body did change then... what does that matter? Change is change.⠀ ⠀ But usually? ⠀ ⠀ Sarah just genuinely wants to catch up with you and isn’t scoping out your bod to cast you for the next Sports Illustrated issue. ⠀ ⠀ So lay off that worry, would ya? ⠀ ⠀ Your body changes over the years. Bottom line. Big changes, small changes, pounds that fall off or stick around, boobs that get bigger or smaller, damn - even my feet and hands got bigger since having a baby. If the change makes you unhappy, do something about it. (Except the grey and hands thing, you can’t really do anything about that )⠀ ⠀ Otherwise, it’s time to start adjusting your mindset and looking at yourself in a different way.⠀ ⠀ You are worth so much more than just a body. ⠀ ⠀ Give yourself some love, and embrace that #mombod
