The best exercises for gains* - Follow @dancudes ! - To make the best out of your workout, you need to do the exercises that have the best bang for your buck both for the upper body and for the lower body. These exercises are compound in nature and allow us to overload the body with a lot of mechanical tension; a key driver for growth. For the upper body, these exercises include your incline and bench presses, overhead presses, chest and triceps dips, pushups, pull-ups and chinups, and barbell rows. For the lower body, these exercises include your front and back squats, leg presses, forward and backward lunges, all types of deadlifts (especially conventional), hip thrusts and good mornings. For the most out of these exercises, I like to aim for 6-12 reps per set and perform somewhere around 15ish sets per muscle group per week (though this can be higher and closer to 20 + sets or lower and closet to around 10 sets depending on the trainee). @iwannaburnfat also has an awesome post about weekly volume in relation to literature from Brad Schoenfeld that you can check out for a more in depth perspective. These are some of the best exercises there are and some of the best compound lifts you can do.
