As caregivers we sometimes need to help our little people regulate themselves when they are distressed. Calm breathing has so many benefits, but we might need to get a little creative to get our kids on board! I used to have a pack of bubbles in my play therapy room which I would send home with families to practice relaxation breathing. Get your kids to try and blow the biggest bubble they can by taking a long slow breath out. Kids love a challenge just as much as they love bubbles so this activity is a winner all around! #lifewithatoddler #relaxation #relaxationbreathing #calmbreathing #zenkids #toddler #mommyblogger #mummyblogger #parenting #parentsofinstagram #mumsofinstagram #emotions #emotionalregulation #play #learningthroughplay #playtherapy #kids #psychologist #foreverblowingbubbles #towardwellbeing #wellnessblogger #wellbeing #wellness
✨when children are upset they can really benefit from learning how to incorporate relax breathing into their self regulation tool chest.
✨but how can you teach them in kid friendly terms? Use balloons to talk about calm breathing as well how to manage big and intense feelings
✨in play therapy I would get a balloon to teach kids how to do relaxation breathing (slow breath in through the nose for 5 seconds and slow breath out to blow up the balloon for 5 seconds)
✨ a balloon can also be used to signify what big emotions feel like in our bodies. Ask@you kid what happens when you blow a balloon up too big (very tight, easily to pop if it brushed against something, might burst if you fill it up too much). So we need to notice when our bodies get too full of feelings and learn some ways to slowly let those feelings out

And so another class has come to an end. ⠀
⠀
The last 5 weeks these students gained the knowledge, tools, and sense of calm they need to go into their birthing journeys. We laughed, we cried, we learned and we just had fun together. ⠀
⠀
Our students are so special to us. They come in bringing their whole selves. They bring in their fears and trust us to guide them on how to let those fears go using HypnoBirthing. What an honor it is to hold space for these beautiful families and to help them go inward where they find their power that has always been within them. ⠀
⠀
⠀
So excited to welcome in more students starting May 8th at our beautiful new location @southbaymommyandme. DM us or email us if you are interested in attending our next class. ⠀

One of the most important & healing things we can do for our body is breathe correctly. When we are stressed we begin to breathe shallowly which then creates more stress on the body which then can make us feel more anxious. It’s a vicious cycle which requires awareness to break, so that in those moments of stress you can start to breath deeper, slower & calm your body down. The way we breathe affects our physical & emotional body. When I was teaching yoga we would practice the abdominal breathing at the beginning of class to release tension, to initiate relaxation, visualization or meditation. Many people after years of shallow breathing can find it difficult to do this as it’s just so foreign to the body.
This breathing is what we call Calm Breath in HypnoBirthing, it’s what we use to initiate relaxation, during the surges (contractions) to relax the body & release tension or anytime we start to feel tense, frightened or stressed in day to day life, especially when pregnant as our emotions cross the placenta to the baby. Calm breathing maintains the sufficient & continual supply of oxygen to the baby during labour, especially after an intense surge. Oxygen is the most important fuel for the working muscles in the uterus in labour.
Some other amazing benefits of learning how to breathe deeper are:
- release acute & chronic muscular tension around the heart & digestive organs.
- Dramatically reduce emotional & nervous anxiety.
- Improves detoxification through increased exchange of carbon dioxide & oxygen.
- Amplifies the auto immune system by increased distribution of energy to the endocrine system.
- Promotes proper diaphragm breathing which oxygenates the blood & purges the lung of residual carbon dioxide.
- Promotes deeper breathing daily which helps reduce stress in the body. - Help to initiate sleep & promote a more relaxed deeper sleep.
I would recommend practicing at night when you lie down in bed. Connect with your breathing, is it shallow or deep. Connect with how your feeling, anxious, stressed, fidgety?

Becoming the adult I am today I had to learn the hard way that I could not change the circumstances or violent communities that I had been exposed to, but had learned later on in life that with mindfulness tools can change how I handle the residue of my experiences in my day to day life. ⠀
I am so passionate about how yoga & mindfulness transformed me as a human that my gift to every single child is to inspire them to use these tools that I never had growing up so that they become impactful members of the world @calmclassrooms
