“When you find someone with a fiery personality who is equal parts compassionate, empathetic, bursting with bucket loads of talent, bold, and with a spectacular sense of humor, it’s easy to see why people gravitate towards them. Natasha (@natvanlis ) is one of those people who seemingly has the ability to pull you into her orbit with her boundless charisma and engaging energy.
⠀ ⠀
She’s driven, passionate, brave, kind, loving, weird, and a giant nerd, and she works her butt off. And she’s constantly using her platform to provide a voice and safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community. She also uses it to start conversations about mental health and help end the stigma around it.
⠀ ⠀
She has helped so many through her work, activism, and just by being herself, in so many different ways. And her passion to make a positive change is nothing short of awe-inspiring. She’s truly beautiful inside and out.
⠀ ⠀
And there is absolutely no doubt in my heart that this tiny, Canadian firecracker isn’t going to make a positive impact on the world. She certainly made one on mine. I’m not sure if she realizes just how inspiring she is to others, but I hope she does. She’s an absolute powerhouse, and she inspires me to be better everyday.”

The phrase that used to hurt me the most was "JUST GET OVER IT"!!! •
Didn't they realize that we want nothing more than to just GET OVER IT?!! That when you are in the midst of panic and anxiety that GETTING OVER IT FEELS IMPOSSIBLE! •
Hearing phrases like the ones listed above belittle what you are feeling and thinking. These are phrases that make us feel even more powerless and even less able to cope. •
The best thing that someone can do for a person who is struggling with anxiety is let them know that you are there for them and that if they feel comfortable talking about it, you are honoured to listen. •
Active listening enables them to discuss their inner feelings and fears while letting it out and loosening anxiety's grip. Talking about it is a release and when done so in a space that is with someone they love and trust....so much healing takes place. Simply listening, shows them that you care! •
Next, you can also ask them if there is anything they would like you to do for them. When we struggle with anxiety we often feel like a burden and we will fear even asking for something small like a glass of water or a hug❤, so putting it out there that you are ready to do any task to help, really helps♀️! •
COMMENT BELOW WHAT HELPS YOU THE MOST WHEN YOU ARE STRUGGLING WITH ANXIETY?

MY STORY ▶️▶️..Growing up in a household with Bi-Polar and Depression:
.
When the sun goes down, it’s coming up somewhere :)
.
Growing up in my household there was lots of love but there were also many eggshells to walk across. I never even knew mental health affected my life until I got older and was able to fully understand why my father had so much rage one moment and kindness another. We were two bulls always clashing heads, and still to this day there are topics I can’t talk to with my father in knowing it will trigger him to show his other face. When my father was taking his medication it was a totally different household. When he was not it was to my room I go. It was confusing and really difficult to understand. As I got older I developed symptoms of depression and was diagnosed in my early teens. The drugs I was put on were so heavy I hardly felt like the same person. I felt foggy and dead inside. Worse I think than dealing with the depression I had. I took them until I couldn’t anymore. My supplement? A run ♀️. The first time I went for a run through the countryside I felt just a bit better. Daily I pushed myself to run a bit further and further and over time MY cure became physical activity. On those runs I treated myself with nature. After a year on meds I quit and kept physical activity as the treatment. This just worked for me,and I never wanted a pill to be my fix.
.
Winter is coming and I often find myself worried about how it’s going to change me. I have very difficult days and I have great days. The highs and lows are real. SAD happens to me every year but being someone that has been proactively dealing with sadness I just keep the sun in my heart and know another day is on the horizon. Sitting in the sun is something I practice almost daily taking my dog for his little walks. I also find writing music very cathartic and singing loudly at my piano. The things that bring me joy.
.
To those dealing w mental illness of any kind remember the sun may be going down, but it’s coming up bright and warm somewhere else.
.
And that means I have to go on lots of vacations ;) hehe. .

To celebrate #globalrunningday, Saucony has begun the #RunForGoodRelay. Saucony will donate to one of their charitable partners including the Center of Addiction and Mental Health in Canada @camhfoundation for every kilometer ran in the month of June. CAMH offers programs for those with anxiety, depression, dementia, stress disorders and so much more. It strives to break down mental illness stigmas and also conducts research aiming to understand mental illness. All you have to do to participate is run 1km and post about it. Scroll ➡️ for details! I am stoked to have a small way to use running to boost others as it does for me. So let's get those on and get those s clicking! Happy running! .
