Two metal restorations cemented the other day for a patient with wear and cracked teeth. One of my favourite cases of the year so far. This patient was a delight to treat! She even loves the flash of “silver” in her smile. Unfortunately gold restorations are not an option due to public sector regulations. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ There are many benefits for metal restorations like • Better wear properties, • Very good accuracy/margin adaptation, • High strength, • More minimal tooth preparation and • High longevity. ⠀ ⠀ Apart from the obvious aesthetics issue (not in this case), they are a great material option!

Time to head back to Australia ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My short break in Canada from dental school has come to an end . Mid year clinical exam was this 11 class 4&3. Overall happy with the end result but valuable lessons were learnt from this exam! If I were to go back I would round off mesial edge and create more symmetry between 11&21 Incisal edges without making it flat. Also transition lines can be more harmonious. Nb. Model is over my Loupes bag, it’s a great contraster

I had the pleasure of shadowing Dr. Goth for the insertion of this case. A great patient, inter-deciplinary treatment planning, and attention to detail. And obviously outstanding results with great documentation! More on this experience on another post Posted @withrepost • @dr.gothsiu A great interdisciplinary case to start off 2019! This lovely patient came to us wanting to improve her smile with veneers. I explained that the most conservative approach would be orthodontics. I immediately referred to @freeman.caro.lands.ortho for an orthodontic evaluation. @drbvf suggested that while an orthognathic surgical approach was the ideal treatment, the presence of an extensive osseous dysplasia brought the risk of tooth loss and possible activation of further areas of unfavourable bony changes. The literature with regard to movement of teeth in/around such areas is limited and given the risks, a prosthodontic solution followed by retention with occlusal coverage was thought best for the patient. To improve the canting of the smile, a gum lift procedure was first done by @johnstoneperio to correct the gingival architecture and to increase the length of the teeth. This was done using a surgical guide. After gum maturation, we did 8 porcelain veneers to improve colour, contours and proportions. Ceramics were done by the amazing @yuzomatsumura_rdt . The patient will now be continuing regular dental care with @dentistryonu as good maintenance is crucial to long term success. This case emphasizes the importance of teamwork and referrals. Sometimes you refer to other specialists to rule out what you thought was the ideal treatment...not just to receive that treatment. Only then can we know that we are providing the absolute best treatment for our patients.
