For everyone who’s purchased one of my creations over the last 15 yrs or passed on my name to a client or friend, I’m truly grateful... A customer reached out to me this week and expressed how appreciative they were to be able to have a custom designed gown designed by the designer for them. They showed gratitude for how incredible it made them feel on the night they wore it. Thank you for loving what I love to do... I didn’t just fall into where I am today. It’s taken persistence, resilience and courage to stay true to who I believed I am, and what felt right no matter who told me I couldn’t. I believed and I trusted god to guide me. Sometimes you just need to take a leap of faith.... plan, visualise, take action........!!! Your dreams are there to conquer #careerhappiness #successstartshere #creatingmoments #dressunique #dresshowyoufeel #dressinyourdream #aussiedesigner #australianfashiondesigners #AMYTAYLOR #queenofbackless

Over 40% of doctors experience #burnout This number is quoted in a recent Medscape memo as well as a survey done at our hospital. Many docs point to the electronic health record and increasing pressures by administration to see more patients in less time and to document more. Is another factor in this generational change related to societal pressure to produce in life? Two or 3 decades ago, the typical doctor was a man. The family roles were clear: the wife takes care of the home, the husband works. On average the prior generation of men felt a lower expectation and less guilt over working long hours or missing family time. That’s just how IT was. The household duties were taken care of by the wife. That’s just how THAT was. In today’s generation of doctors, male or female, we have expectations of ourselves to DO IT ALL. It is no longer considered ok to just work whether you are male or female. This is not just a female problem. My male colleagues feel this pressure too. When they have children, they want to have time to bond with their newborn also. They want to be there for their families. They want to share the household roles. Many men have working wives, who expect shared responsibilities. Does this pressure to produce at work and produce at home play a role in the feeling of burnout to some extent? Are we trying to do too much? If so, what’s the solution? Is it possible to help ourselves by eliminating tasks that don’t bring us joy at home and at work? For me (the home task I have cut back on is cooking- I used to try to do too much). At work, I would love to have a scribe to reduce my charting (working on the logistics)! I think WE, as a profession have more control and say over the situation than we think. Rather than placing blame, can we each make little changes to help ourselves? I realize that for some, the problem may be deeper and solution not as simple as getting a scribe, for example. Maybe the job itself isn’t right? If you are feeling #burnout - please consider the possible changes you can make to bring you back to why you chose this career in the first place. What do you think? What tips do you have to prevent or combat burnout?

I had tears in my eyes watching this and seeing the officers compassion. Two big takeaways: Everyone wants to be heard, take a few minutes to listen. A hug goes a long way. Judge less and hug more. #CarpeDiem Jesse
