I turn 31 years old today. Each year I feel like I become more aware of how little I know, but at the same time I feel so much wiser than the year before. — I finished the green stage of a large number of pots this past weekend. I rubbed the clay textures smooth, while trying to keep some trimmed textures in tact. I set up some fans to try and speed up the drying on some fresher pieces in order to get them hard enough to transport to the kiln location. I tried to not forget to rotate the pieces so they get even air flow. I fussed on handle shapes, tried a bunch, then took them all off. I thought about how much less dust I would be subject to if I were just sitting on the couch reading. I was totally over it when I was in the middle of packing them all carefully for their car ride to the studio. I don’t have a kiln at home so I don’t have a choice. But it is a choice for me to have my studio at home and I wouldn’t have it any other way. After the massive clean up and clearing of the pots, I saw the empty studio and am excited again for what’s next.

Currently experimenting with foodsafe resin to seal the small grooves and pockets left behind by the flowers. While the texture of the imprints are super pretty, it also makes the plates non-foodsafe since it traps small foods and makes it hard to clean out. I like my ceramics to be functional, otherwise they harbor dead energy if just placed on the shelf... only by using them can they reflect your love for them ✨❤️

Something totally new, lemme know your thoughts! It’s hard for me to experiment with glazes as much as I’d like because my kiln-sitter of a kiln (from like the 80’s) is so fickle as it is! But! I think I’ve really perfected this new pattern. It looks pretty and is so satisfying to carve. I’m going to experiment with glazing some in clear and leaving others unglazed on the outside, but all will be the natural white stoneware when they are finished.

I’m excited to share with you this handbuilt porcelain mug! I used black porcelain colored with mason stains for the handle color. This is currently unfired, when it is all glazed and finished the black should be super black and the grayish slip will be a nice blue.
