Hey, how’ve you been? Here’s a photo of my bedroom (jk, not really. My bedroom is bigger than this). It’s the Painted Hall at Chatsworth. Impressive, no? It’s one of the first rooms you see when you walk round the house and it’s been on telly too! For some reason, Chatsworth is often used as a stand in for Pemberley when filming adaptations of Pride and Prejudice although in my humble opinion, it’s a bit too grand for Darcy. (He’s not even a Lord! He’s just a plain old Mister). Just behind that massive staircase there, is the grotto, complete with fountain. This was purposely built so that the 1st Duke of Devonshire could show his guests that his house had running water as is was considered improper at the time to show them the bathroom. Show off . Bonus fact: Mary Queen of Scots was lodged as a prisoner at Chatsworth several times under the care of Bess of Hardwick’s husband, the Earl Of Shrewsbury. It was Bess who built the original house at Chatsworth (although not personally. She was quite a gal but her talents, as far as I’m aware, didn’t run to bricklaying. She left that to the serfs).

The Blue Drawing Room at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire (during the time of Debo and 11th Duke), home of Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The large portrait is of the Acheson sisters by John Singer Sargent (1856–1925), 1902.
