Der Checkpoint Charlie war einer der Berliner Grenzübergänge durch die Berliner Mauer zwischen 1961 und 1990. Wahnsinn das vor einiger Zeit dort eine große Mauer stand und das Land aufgeteilt hat...das kann man sich gar nicht vorstellen oder? Möchte ich auch ehrlich gesagt gar nicht. Familien sind getrennt wurden oder lieben dadurch zerstört, wo man jetzt Touribilder macht - sah die Welt mal ganz düster aus! It's completely ok to indulge in touristy things. What I fail to understand is why is it that we look down upon touristy activities and why are we in this endless search for secret locations, spots, and viewpoints? Clichés seem to hurt the new-age #wanderlust ego way more than it actually should. A wholesome travel experience for me has a little bit of everything. The touristy attractions, local food, secret locations, walks down the urban areas, and the cliché expeditions to find the perfect fridge magnet. Go ahead, get that touristy photo in front of Checkpoint Charlie as a random stranger dressed in a costume photobombs your picture. It can't get more millennial than that. Things to do in #Berlin #6 Visit Checkpoint Charlie And now it's time for some history: After the border crossings at Helmstedt-Marienborn (Alpha) and Dreilinden-Drewitz (Bravo), Checkpoint Charlie was the third checkpoint opened by the Allies in and around Berlin. Located on the corner of Friedrichstraße and Zimmerstraße, it is a reminder of the former border crossing, the Cold War and the partition of Berlin. The sign at the checkpoint became a symbol of the division of Cold War Berlin and read like a dire warning to those about to venture beyond the Wall – "YOU ARE LEAVING THE AMERICAN SECTOR" – in English, Russian, French and German. Besides being an important Cold War site, it was also considered as the loophole that witnessed numerous attempts to escape from East Berlin. For escape stories one must visit the Wall Museum right next to Checkpoint Charlie, details of which I will share in my next post. What is interesting to notice is that as you walk towards Checkpoint Charlie, essentially entering the former American sector, the sign board reads "You are entering the American sector Carrying weapons off duty forbidden Obey traffic rules". Y aquí está ,el puesto de control Charlie ,el más famoso de los pasos fronterizos del muro de Berlín. • • • Está ubicado en una zona muy céntrica, en la calle Friedrichstraße, a 15 minutos andando desde Potsdamer Platz. • • • El punto de control del Checkpoint Charlie fue demolido poco tiempo después de caer el Muro de Berlín . • • En el año 2000 se decidió reconstruirlo y hoy podemos ver una reproducción bastante fidedigna. • • • Ahora creo que es poco parque temático, con gente disfrazada de soldado para hacerse la foto , aún así creo que merece la pena la visita . • • • ¡ Feliz finde !
