More than 100 Chinese flax trees and date palms from the Canary Islands are put in the sand each spring after wintering in a greenhouse. The people of Frederikshavn initially met the notion of spending money on palm trees with scepticism, but today the trees are an ingrained part of the city’s image in Denmark and abroad. The house ‘Åklit’ located in Tversted has been protected behind the sand hills on the West Coast since 1934. But two years ago, the sand hills were eaten by the sea and last winter the ocean moved the house to the beach during a storm. Now it is in the process of decaying. The sea level is rising because of climate changes and the waves eats it way into the land and swallows houses, churches and fields in this rough part of Denmark. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ I am very proud that “Coastland” was screened at @visapourlimage in Perpignan.
