#MarchMeetTheMaker Day 26: #SelfCare... How apt! Today I went for a colposcopy. I went for my cervical screening appointment back in March 2018, which came back with high abnormalities. Two days before I was due to have the abnormal cells removed I found out that I was pregnant, so after a few checks over the course of my pregnancy and a healthy birth later, I finally went to get the offending cells removed today. I ended up being quite anxious about it, but it didn’t hurt, the staff were lovely and I’ve just been left with what feels like a period. Fingers crossed that’s the end of that and the results from my biopsy come back okay and we can all live happily ever after. To me, self care is keeping myself healthy and safe so I can be around to watch my little girl grow up and have babies of her own. If anyone hasn’t gone for their cervical screening, please do! Phone up and make that appointment. If I hadn’t, it’s likely that 10-15 years down the line those cells could have turned cancerous and be wrecking my body before I even knew there was an issue and I’d have to be sitting my little girl down and explaining why mummy was so poorly. No one should have to do that, but the facts are that 2 women still die every day from cervical cancer. Look after your bodies ladies and get yourselves screened! ❤️

Today I had a Colposcopy. For those of you who don’t know, this is a procedure that takes place if your Pap smear is abnormal. I’m not going to lie, when I heard that my pap was abnormal I couldn’t help but to think of the worse possible situation. So many thoughts came to my head like what if I have cancer, or if I’m going to die, or I won’t be able to have kids etc...It’s been a a huge challenge for me to not see the glass half empty but rather half full. If it wasn’t for Shawns support and calm demeanor, knowing me, I probably would’ve freaked out even more. I am so incredibly lucky to have had Shawn here with me during this time! With that being said, I can’t express how Important it is for your annual check ladies! I was the type of person that just wanted to avoid paps at all cost. They’re uncomfortable and honestly pretty awkward. If I had avoided this years pap who knows where I could be a year from now. Go get your checks, they are super fast and are there for a reason! As of right now, I I’m okay. I had a few biopsy’s taken and I am in a lot of discomfort but otherwise good! Please pray + send good vibes my way! Gotta stay positive until my results come in later next week.

3 weeks ago my dr called and said I have #highriskHPV, my #pap was abdnormal, and they couldn't tell if it was cancer. Waiting two weeks for a #colposcopy and biopsy felt like an eternity. I was a mess the past few weeks. Depressed. Moody. Self loathing. The day before my biopsy I was braiding my daughter's hair and started bawling. "Who will braid her hair if I die of cancer?" At my colposcopy they only found one small spot. I got my results today that I'm a 1 on a scale of 0 to 4. 0 to 1 the body "can" heal itself. 2 they need to take action like freeze your #cervix. 3 might need a hysterectomy if you're done having kids. We did not go over 4. 80% of people will develop HPV. There's over 100 types, only a few cause cancer. I have 1 of those few. You can get hpv from kissing. Usually it clears up in 2 years. I went 12 years without a pap because I was worried about my fat thighs and big tummy. I was always saying "when I #loseweight I will do it." My dr bugged me for years and I finally gave in. A few more years and my story might be different. Ladies, get your pap! **Girl post** . . I have always gone for my smear tests, uncomfortable as they are I have always called up and booked it in, went, not liked it very much obviously then received a lovely little letter telling me I’m fine see you in three years and forget about it. Repeat process every three years. . . Well this time I wasn’t so lucky. I got the letter none of us want which is abnormal cells followed by a hospital appointment, so today I went for that appointment. . ‍⚕️ . It was a small room, very small actually with two smiling nurses called Sue and Jenny. They sat me down and talked me through the procedure. I liked Sue a lot, older lady with glasses and a big smile . They said I was wearing the perfect outfit for the occasion (a Primark dress with no tights) and led me to a little cubical where Sue just politely asked me to remove my underwear. When I drew the curtain back I was a bit shocked by what I saw... . . A pink “chair” I say chair lightly because I haven’t ever seen anything like this before.. a seat with two bits for your legs. Now I had two water births and no stitches so I imagine they might use this kind of thing for that? I’m not sure. Sue laughed and said “at least it’s pink” . . I sat on this chair with my paper modesty blanket whist Jenny got to work. Sue was there purely to distract me, she told me she ran London once but now has dropped down to 10ks. I told her I hated London, we laughed a bit. Jenny asked me to cough whilst she did the painful bit. It lasted longer than a smear but Sue kept asking me questions about my job, We then compared jobs, kind of difficult to compare vaginas to lattes but they are both complicated I suppose. . . Jenny finished and told me she found two areas that were of concern, she was pretty sure it’s CIN 2, the biopsy will confirm in a few weeks. . . I want to reassure anyone out there who is worried, to not be, it’s really important to go and I’m really thankful for our NHS. As it's an European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week I feel that I have a duty to talk about something many people may find to be a sensitive or an intimate subject. But, if one of you decide to take action in gaining more control over your life I'll be as happy as I can be. I'm 21 and I'm already due to have another smear test just before my 22 birthday, 6 months after my first colposcopy. Cervical cancer doesn't discriminate when it comes to age. Luckily for me, the abnormal changes were detected early so appropriate control measures could be taken to stop it in time. As far as I'm aware, nobody in my family had it (or we women just don't talk about things like this). There aren't many symptoms. I had to fight for 3 years to even be allowed to have a smear test (NHS guideline says you have to be over 25 years of age to have one) and I couldn't let anything stop me. I love life and I have people here who need me and they can't possibly lose me to a cervical cancer. I'm safe from cancer now. The abnormal changes have reversed and now I will be observed by doctors once a year.
