In honor of the Sunday scaries I have a 2 month update on what it’s like to abide by the corporate greyscale on a daily basis. Contrary to what I THOUGHT would happen (breakdowns in the bathroom from wearing the same grey plaid blazer 3 days in a row), I’ve found it to be surprisingly liberating. Link in bio ✨

“Who, me? I can’t see a thing!” This post is brought to you by the Sun Queen, who decided to pop back around just in time to blind the living daylights (ha ha) out of me and heat up the humidity to “ugh” levels. ⠀ ~⠀ Ok, time to get serious. I’ve been chatting with a friend who is having trouble with her medical professional, and it brings up something that has been weighing on my mind. This particular problem is rampant; the medical community is under tremendous social pressure to stop prescribing effective pain medications. Many of us are familiar with the supposed “opioid crisis” in the US. Frankly, the US has an abusive drug problem (both legal and illegal); there is no arguing that, and I’ve seen both with my own eyes. But I DO have an issue with people who know nothing about pain, chronic pain, and a host of other issues ranting about things they do not know. It’s one thing to want to curb illegal drug abuse, but it’s quite another to make people who have legitimate, recorded, often long-term issues not have access to the few things that make their lives bearable. I am very, very lucky; I have chronic pain of the moderate type that is not constant, with only spikes of “severe”. But let me tell you, when it IS present, I can be completely non-functional and a physical and emotional wreck. People who have never experienced long-term intense pain simply have no idea what others are going through and how limited their lives can be, and how much medications can help. And I mean “help” - I do not mean “cure” - the pain going away is simply not an option and never will be. Let’s all let that soak in for a moment. No pain will never be an option. EVER. And that very fact can wreak havoc on one’s psyche, in addition to the physical stress. Unfortunately, the class of medications that are the most effective on these types of pain fall within the current “witch-hunt” category for most sufferers. SUFFERING, my friends, other people are SUFFERING because it’s de rigueur and fashionable to rant on this subject. We are talking about the fabric of other peoples’ lives - it’s really none of anyone else’s business. (More below)

I’m sure many of you have noticed that “bot” traffic is increasing on IG. Bots are automated programs that are responsible for most of the follow/unfollowing that is being done (among other unsavory things). People pay to have “bots” (automated programs) do their dirty work in a speedy and efficient (but massively annoying) manner. First off, it’s important that we all know that IG does NOT approve of automated liking, comments, and following/unfollowing. If you see it happening, please report it as spam so that IG can possibly get rid of it. IG very much wants this to be a friendly, real place, but most importantly, to them, they do not want anyone making money off of their platform (unless it’s them). It violates their TOS (Terms of Service) and they will not tolerate it. That’s the good-ish news. The bad news is that the follow/unfollow is done by a robot. There is no way to tell them to stop (unfortunately), because there is no one to read what you say, as well as no one to read/look at what is on your page. It will not matter what you do or say...the program will do whatever it is programmed to do. If anyone follows you without a like or comment with the follow, you can pretty much be 99% sure it's a bot. I recommend that you ignore it, realize someone actually PAID for a service to behave like a jerk, and rest happy that you are too smart to fall into the trap. And whatever you do - don’t follow them!!⠀ ~⠀ It's hard not to take it personally, but please try not to - it has nothing to do with you - and is simply a terrible reflection on the owner of the account engaging in this illegal process. It's not worth disturbing your Wa (harmony) over. You are better than that.⠀ ~ ⠀ I would like to give a special thanks to my Beloved Twinnie at @soultribers for reminding me that I needed to share this information. I have more like this, if you are interested - just let me know!⠀ ~⠀ Thank you for spending your time with me. Thhfft! (Just a small raspberry for the Monday following a long weekend…) Did you get any super-scores or anything fun in the Black Friday sales? Most of the online specials are still going, so I am about to let my fingers do some more walking…or should I say shopping? (I refuse to go anywhere near a brick-and-mortar store while this insanity reigns.) I am also making a point to only spend what I have budgeted - it’s hard with all of the killer deals, but we’re strong, WE CAN DO IT! I refuse to go into debt just because of the hype and craziness. I strongly believe that love and caring lasts all year, and is not only “wrapped up” in gifts.⠀ ~⠀ Thank you for your well-wishes for Thanksgiving, I hope your weekend was full of everything you wanted, whether you celebrated or not! ⠀ ~⠀ And thank you for spending your time with me. Please return soon and follow if you’d like - I’d love to have you, and we have a LOT of fun here! @tessalovejoy⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #9to5chic #careerwomen #careergirl #careertips #careerstyle #careerwear #casualtop #casualblouse #corporateattire #corporatechic #corporatewear #corporateworld #classicfashion #dailyfashionideas #dressforwork #fashionaddiction #howtowearit #inspirationlook #instafashionblogger #myoutfittoday #officeoutfit #shoppingusa #shoppinginsta #shoppingaddicted #shoppingaddicts #whatimwearingnow #whatiworetowork #workfashion #workwearstyle #tessalovejoy⠀

I was pretty excited to break out this belt. It’s a gorgeous rich brown with hints of deep red throughout and looks very expensive, with its beautifully woven leather details. I bought it over 10 years ago and have not worn it once, until now. It’s perfectly thick around my waist, and fits like a dream, holding me in and highlighting my waist. The ends taper down in the front to the clasp, which is lovely too. But…that’s the problem. Its thickness works with soooo many outfits; dresses, and skirts, and pants! But that taper down in the front messes the entire thing up, for all of a sudden the eye sees that something is off - it just doesn’t look right. Wearing a belt and looking good in it is all about proportion and what it does to the eye; how it looks, and how it makes everything else look. But, if I put this one with an outfit for a thick belt, the front is too thin. And if I put it with an outfit for a thin belt, the front is good, but the sides and back look weird, being so extra-thick. So I have tried…seriously tried...for allll of these years, and nothing has ever really worked. Because, even though that belt TRIES to be two things, it’s not either of those things, and ends up failing at both. And it sat in my closet for over 10 years, try after try, after try, barely escaping the many closet purges that have spun around it. It looks fine in this picture - because we can’t realllly see how the front of it is too thin for this outfit.⠀ ~⠀ How DID it survive all of those closet purges and defeats? How did it not make it into a donate pile, or even a throw away pile, from my years of frustration with it? It’s not like me to keep something so vexing. You have seen me get rid of something after a few hours’ wearing if it doesn’t work right. And I stand firmly behind that - get it out if it’s not right - it never will be. It will be perfect for someone else, so pass it along for them to love. And yet it stayed…hmmm…it sure is beautiful...a real piece of craftsmanship. What do YOU think?⠀ ~⠀ Thank you for spending your time with me. Please return soon and follow if you’d like - I’d love to have you! @tessalovejoy # tessalovejoy⠀ ⠀

Some things photograph so weird. In person, this jacket is amazing. It cuts in at my waist and then flares out beautifully, reminding me of a ballet dancer's tutu. But it looks HUGE in all of the pictures we took. It looks too big in the shoulders (it's not) and the gorgeous shiny embossed animal print motif makes it look like I am playing Halloween dress-up as an American football linebacker (I'm not). So I wanted to remind everyone today that while "every picture tells a story", it's not always a truthful one. So please don't despair if you don't like pictures of yourself - many of us don't. Changing a 3D person into a 2D image has a weird flattening (and therefore fattening) effect. So, IT IS NOT YOU! It is the dang camera and the nature of being a real, living, breathing human being - which is kind of important. ;) ⠀ ~⠀ There are tricks to taking a photograph we will dislike less, or maybe even like, if we are lucky. If you're interested in those tricks, let me know, and I will add them to my list of things to talk about. I usually focus on what works in real life, but in today's social media society, taking a decent picture can be important too. I really want everyone to know that those pictures in the magazines are not "real", and neither are many (most) pictures online. And that's fine (not really, but it's too late to change it), until people start thinking they need to look like those images, but aren't equipped with the knowledge of how to do it, and start thinking they are less-than because of some genius smoke-and-mirror effects being used by so many others.⠀ ~⠀ Thank you for spending your time with me. “Don’t Fence Me In!” A patterned dress hides a LOT, including lumps and bumps and a generous meal. This one skims over anything & everything, and the long sleeves add a little comfort to a too-cold office, while the pattern & color play at the bottom add even more fun. It’s not really warm enough for long sleeves or closed-toe shoes here yet, but I wanted to try pairing three different neutral accessories (grey purse, nude-for-me shoes, black belt) again. Meh. My matchy-matchy fashion heart prefers all of them to be the same - I am soooo happy matching is “back in style”. But to me, it never really left. Although I looove to play with trends, I never let them dictate what I wear, or “hem me in”. Classics ALWAYS work, and work HARD for me and my wallet! ⠀ ~⠀ If I needed an even more conservative outfit, I would put a blazer right on top of this dress, being mindful of the loose sleeves. I would probably choose a black short sleeved one, or maybe a vest, depending on the level of formality needed.⠀ ~⠀ @ModaluEngland grey satchel, nude heels by @BMakowsky_handbags (this is a fabulous brand for lower-priced leather purses and shoes!), not-new dress - probably from @RossDressForLess or @Marshalls; everything is from my closet.⠀ ~⠀ Thank you for spending your time with me.
