The oil tanker MS Irvingbrook was built Howaldtsweke shipyard in Hamburg between 1951 and 1952. The ship had a length of 162 meters and a diesel engine with which she could reach a maximal speed of 15 knots. In 1954, the tanker collided at the mouth of the river Elbe, near Cuxhaven, with the Belgian cargo ship Louis Sheid. Both ships were badly damaged but the Irvingbrook could be refitted for duty. In 1962 she was lengthened by 16,5 meters at the St. John Dydock in Brunswik, Canada. Here, the data that we own about her gets rather confusing: the ship was apparently renamed Irvingstream. She burned accidentally in 1970 and was wrecked, while some parts and equipment of the ships were reused for the building of a new tanker called Irving stream as well. We are nevertheless not sure about this last facts and would appreciate if someone could give us information. Maybe any of our Canadian friends out there? This impressive yard model from 1952 is built in a scale of 1:100 and stands as a beautiful example of tanker architecture from the early 1950s on deck 6 of the museum.
