I randomly met this person at FortLauderdale airport last week. After an hour talking about work, life, kids, the normal, etc, she asked me: ‘If you had to choose only one thing to teach your kids what would that be?’
Probably the hardest question I have ever been asked.
These are my kids, I want to teach them EVERYTHING I know, and what I don’t know I want to learn to let them know. I want them to have all the tools and resources. I want them to succeed and to be happy. I have to choose just one thing?! So, after days thinking and thinking... now I know: I wanna teach them to: Dare to Live. Dare to live awake, alive, boldly, and with true joy.

I think most of us live a life that doesn’t really feel alive. And some of us live a bit asleep.
I know because I’ve done it. It’s like this: Wake up. Go through the motions. Live with a smile on your face and yet inside you’re sitting looking at life not feeling. Not feeling joy or happiness, not even feeling sadness. Just plain and simple not feeling much. It’s seems safer. After all, life can feel dull or boring or sometimes it hurts, right? WRONG!

I didn’t want to feel all the hurt in life so I instead chose to just not care. ‘I don’t care’ was like a mantra, a mindset that I tried to cling to. But, deep down I really did care and really wanted to live life loving all about it and wanted to allow myself to be me. Then I chose to be brave, like I want my kids to learn to do so.

Living awake and boldly means making a choice that recognizes that you might fall, that life isn’t perfect, and that you will feel hurt, that you will make mistakes. But, when one doesn’t allow emotion in life then you can get stuck in a perpetual cycle of numb.
I finally, about four years ago, realized that I don’t want to live numb anymore – I was missing out too many real moments, too many life gifts tucked into the middle of a life that didn’t feel right, and yet I was still blessed to live. So I choose to dare to live again. And in that dare, joy finally started returning, and with that, this zest for life and a tenacious drive to live a life of wonder, hope, gratefulness and embracing the moments.

گل آفتاب گردون، گل مورد علاقه مامانم بود. این گل برای من سمبل پویایی، انرژی و شادی هست. از دست دادن عزیزمون و ضربه عاطفی که به دنبالش هست درد عمیقی به آدم وارد میکنه که خیلی از وقت ها نمیدونیم باهاش چطور کنار بیایم. همیشه فکر کردیم، زمان درستش میکنه و یا سر خودمون رو شلوغ میکنیم که درد رو حس نکنیم. ولی با کوچکترین تلنگر اشکمون سرازیر میشه و دردش دوباره حس میشه. یکی از اون تلنگرها روز مادر هست. باید یاد بگیریم که چطور بعد از از دست دادن عزیزی بهبود پیدا کنیم. یعنی مفهوم جدیدی برای زندگی بدون ترس و اضطراب از آسیب دیدن در آینده پیدا کنیم، یعنی ما شرایط رو اداره کنیم نه شرایط ما و خوشبختی ما رو. بهبود یافتن یعنی لذت بردن از خاطرات خوب بدون احساس افسوس و پریشانی، یعنی روزی متوجه بشیم که صحبت کردن در مورد آسیب های عاطفی عادی است و برای سلامتی مفید هست. .
