So I personally often think that brushing your teeth should be a zen moment of the day, to be done manually, with a stupid stick with a brush in the end of it. Not complicated. Preferable sustainable wooden stick, like @thehumble.co which is the one I use now. BUT: Having two small kids now, there is never any spare time to do anything. I sometimes even skip the brushing of teeth, altogether. Most electric ones still take time and you have to hold it. So what if it could be done hands-free, AND brushing all teeth at the same time. You could have different treatments, modes, sensors that track your enzymes or whatever in the mouth. And it could give you #gamification in form of display info or vibration. All this at the same time as you surf on your smartphone. Or changing diapers I need an engineer to design the brushes, or static nano-treatment. Or both. Hey, maybe even whitening. Huge market! Toothbrush innovation. How many of you have tried to find a great idea just by thinking? Works for you? I tried this time as well, and like most times it didn’t work. For me, I have to doodle. So then again I put pen to paper and just started drawing something. Anything. Boring standard adult toothbrushes. And suddenly, at the end of thumbnail page 1, a thought came to me. A direction. A place in the market that might not be saturated yet: Toothbrushes for babies. Again I might have thought of this direction also because our Lorens is 10 months old. He has 6 teeth, and constantnly looking for things to chew on, to massage his fresh teeth and aching gums. Parents out there know what I sayin? So why not make a fun, attractive shape, with different playful colours and textures, and of course brushes in the end of it? We have a really cool toothbrush brand here in Norway called @jordan_norge #jordanvethvordan. They have somethin similar, called Jordan Steps 1. But it is just one shape with different graphics, and a regular small brush. I’m thinking there are endless possibilities in this market, within aesthetics, material, finish, form, playfulnes, gamification and of course ergonomics and functionality. If a kid is attracted to it, and uses it a lot just because it’s good, then parents will pay. And buy many :) My favourite sketch in this post is the upper right 360 Degrees Chewable. Made from bamboo, of course @thehumble.co . It has a big hole for easy grabbing. And a brush that is fun to chew on from all directions. (Should maybe be detailed a little more to avoid toilet brush lookalike? :) But as I said; sooo many possibilities to explore cool shapes in a product like this. The Penguin is just a start :) Who wants to join? Im thinking maybe even VR is next step. .. .. And of course this is just 1 hour og doodling. No research. #Repost @alexambridge with @get_repost ・・・ Slightly late to the party but just seen @robertlkiss , @letsdesigndaily and @sketchfresh posts telling us to design toothbrushes! For international design sketching challenge #designdailyidsc . . Slightly rough and ready as I was letting the design develop as I was sketching it. . The general idea is a high-quality long-lasting single-piece metal handle toothbrush with a smallest possible replaceable clip-on-plastic toothbrush head - like a disposable razer head. . This could be part of a mail subscription head replacement service. I'd look to try and make the bristles and main body out of the same type of plastic (not sure if this is possible) to facilitate recycling (the same company that supplies the replacement head could collect the old ones to make a circular lifecycle). . Finally with a design like this it is really important that both parts are designed to mate together in a very smooth connection to avoid scratching the users mouth. And also to avoid unnecessary dirt traps that could harbour germs. . #Repost @alexambridge with @get_repost ・・・ I wanted to do a follow up to my previous #designdailyidsc toothbrush sketch. This time looking a little at the product lifecycle and finalise some of the details.. I included a packaging concept which I thought could be mailed to the user and it would dispense new heads from the bottom and then the user puts the old worn out heads in the top. Once all the heads have been dispensed the user can close it up and send it back to the supplier. Meaning the old heads can be recycled (thus allowing a circular lifestyle) and alerting the supplier to send a new box to the user. . The actual "snap-fit" design illustrated on the heads is an initial idea and would need FEA and prototype development. I mainly wanted to communicate that this is a snap fit and should be smooth for the users comfort and avoid too many dirt traps for hygiene reasons. . I was thinking the toothbrush would be metal. It should be a high value item to encourage the user to keep it and ensure a long life. I would want to talk to a few target users to see how they feel about a metal toothbrush. Potentially high quality plastic or composite could be used instead.
