Salt Domes One lifetime is not enough to see all the natural wonders of Iran. Salt domes in Bastak and several other cities are one of the beautiful natural attractions in Iran. A salt dome is a mound or column of salt that has intruded upwards into overlying sediments. Salt domes can form in a sedimentary basin where a thick layer of salt is overlain by younger sediments of significant thickness. Where conditions allow, salt domes can rise thousands of feet above the layer of salt from which they began growing. Two sources of pressure that have produced salt domes are the downward pressure of overlying sediment and the lateral pressure of tectonic movement. The development of salt domes can deform rock units into traps that hold oil and natural gas. They are often mined as sources of salt and sulfur. In Yazd there is a very special place to visit. The 'Towers of Silence' on the outskirts of the city. They are located on two high mountains, at the foot of which a small village has been preserved. In the towers, people were once buried by the Zoroastrians. ⚰️ The bodies of the deceased were placed in the tower to the exclusion of the public, left to the vultures and then the remaining bones were placed in a hole in the middle of the tower together with various substances, so that they decomposed by mixing with water piece by piece. This type of burial is called sky burial. Handing over the bodies of the earth or water was considered unclean and dangerous in terms of diseases. A really interesting place to visit with many information boards. We enjoyed it a lot! (25.01.2019) ________________________ In Yazd gibt es eine sehr besondere Stätte zu besichtigen. Die 'Türme des Schweigens' am Rande der Stadt.. Sie befinden sich auf zwei hohen Bergen, an deren Fuße ein kleines Dorf erhalten ist. In den Türmen wurden früher von den Zoroastriern Menschen bestattet. ⚰️ Dabei wurden unter Ausschluss der Öffentlichkeit die Körper der Verstorbenen in den Turm gelegt, den Geiern überlassen und anschließend die restlichen Knochen mit verschiedenen Substanzen in ein Loch in der Mitte des Turms gelegt, sodass diese sich durch die Vermischung mit Wasser Stück für Stück zersetzten. Diese Art der Bestattung nennt sich Himmelsbestattung. Die Körper der Erde oder dem Wasser zu übergeben galt als unrein und in Bezug auf Krankheiten zu gefährlich. Ein wirklich interessanter Ort mit vielen Informationstafeln.
