Whatup! Just wanted to share a quick update on an experiment we are running to see the results from doing 1000 skips/day for 30 days

I’m almost 2/3 of the way in and to be honest 1000 skips is super easy. It only takes 6-8 minutes. What’s been HARD is the consistency of doing it EVERY DAY.

This challenge has been a great metaphor for life. Getting super motivated and doing one or two workouts isn’t something to be celebrated. What you should be striving for is consistency. Consistency = long term results. Consistency = the change in your life you really desire. Constancy is king

I heard it a couple of years ago in a podcast called “Out on a Wire” by Jessica Abel, when she was interviewing Kazu Kibuishi, author/artist of the fantastic Amulet graphic novel series. He used the term, and I was so glad to have something to call it! To be able to understand it better and look it in the face. It’s definitely a problem I have. Because of the perfectionism/fear stuff, I’m often afraid to get started on a project, and I spend a lot of time up front fretting and trying to know as much as I can before starting. And I love and value the brainstorming, world-dreaming phase! The problem is, all these expectations build up. The more time you spend before starting, the bigger and more daunting your vision of it becomes, until you don’t feel adequate to ever doing it justice! Also, your initial enthusiasm can wane. Things that seemed so sparkly and fabulous can lose their luster. You get used to them and forget they felt fresh and original. What to do about it? I’m really working on my whole process and attitude and relationship to writing and creativity right now, flooding myself with positive messages, and emulating writers whose attitudes I admire (and envy). And of course, daily trying to do the work of changing my process, not just *thinking* about it! More on all this to come. How are you guys all doing with your writing/perfectionism/fear/joy/fun etc? We all have a seed of greatness in us that was planted the day we were born. Your ONLY job is to water it every single day. Don’t ask when it will bloom, how it will bloom or what it’s gonna look like once it blooms. If you haven’t watered a plant you have no right to sit next to it and question why it hasn’t grown. If you haven’t watered your seed within, you have no right to question anyone else why you haven’t grown. Take proper care of you and have patience.

Just 2 days ago I thought I’d never be able to do more than one double under at a time. (They’re harder than they look!)

I shut down that self limiting belief and in place of thinking I couldn’t, I put in the work and practiced, practiced, practiced.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I got to 10, tried harder, then 16, tried even harder and now I’m able to pull off 21 consecutive double unders until my arms burn and I can’t turn the rope anymore.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It came with many challenges & needs A L O T of tweaking, but it’s progress, not perfection (yet) & is it ever satisfying. Just another thing I can do with my rope and a fun party trick I can pull out in case things get boring
