It’s Friday! This was me almost exactly a year ago. I started a miracle drug called Dupixent on Valentine’s day of last year and it changed everything and gave me my life back. I still have eczema around my eyes and on my hands these days, but that up there seems like a whole different life ago. There was a time where I felt I had to choose either lifestyle OR medicine to heal— but I’m thankful I learned how to do both. Modern medicine is incredible, and I’m thankful everyday that I get to live virtually free from this disease and be all in where I am. Warriors: you got this. Keep on. #eczemaawareness #eatingforeczema #eczemawarrior #eczemawarriors #dupixent #dupilumab #postpartumeczema #fridayintroductions #normalizebreastfeeding #takebackpostpartum
Hey all!
SWIPE FOR THIS AMAZING HAIR TRANSFORMATION!
My girl Kelsey slayed my hair!
.
A few weeks ago, I won a contest and I graciously got to choose 2 packages of hair extension from an incredible local company @lauxhair.
I was crying with excitement.
It meant to much to me - and excitement of feeling as though my hair would feel / look more normal started!!
.
I had been wanting to have Kelsey do mah hair for months.
But adulting happened - and just was never the right time.
.
As most of you have experienced - major hair loss is a huge part of healing with Topical Steroid Withdrawal, inflammation, stress and just steroid use in general.
.
Before this all happened to me (just under 2 years ago) I had incredibly thick, natural black hair.
.
Over the course of a year, I lost well over half of my hair. I was SO fortunate that I do naturally have a lot of hair, so I was able to keep it somewhat normal looking.
However, it thinned throughout my hairline, bang area, and random patches throughout my entire head.
And it also started to feel super straw like & dry.
.
I was so heartbroken. I work so hard to keep my hair healthy. I only had excellent stylists colour it professionally, and that had never left my hair damaged.
It fell out in large clumps for months and months - to the point where I was terrified to even brush it.
.
I am so freakin happy to say that I have SO MUCH regrowth everywhere - all over my head!!!!
.
And now this freakin amazing head of hair that’s flowing!
I am so honoured and lucky to have been able to experience this.
The women who facilitated this - mean more to me than they will ever know.
Hair can just make you feel like a beautiful woman - and when you lose it - it can shake your confidence and in turn you can feel so defeated when experiencing an illness.
❌⭕️
A million thank-yous are owed!!
Today marks 5 years of Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW), Steroid-Induced Eczema, Red Skin Syndrome (RSS). I have had moderate to severe skin problems my entire life, and it has taken away a lot of choices and caused me lots of pain. I now know that steroids are not drugs that can be used as a long-term solution to skin disorders. Even over-the-counter hydrocortisone can be enough for your body to form a dependance, leading to a devastating, long-term withdrawal that is very commonly not acknowledged or supported by doctors. I almost died. It broke my soul and body apart. I’m angry, but I’m doing better now. I’m on Dupixent, a monoclonal antibody that blocks pathways to inflammation in the body on a cellular level, to control my TSW symptoms. Fuck topical steroids. #tsw #redskinsyndrome #iatrogenicillness #rss #topicalsteroidwithdrawal #ITSAN #longtermtswsurvivor #tswwarrior #healinghappens #dupixent #dupilumab #spoonie
Wow, were these even my arms? I feel like I’ve forgotten the period of time when my skin was at its worst. It’s almost as if my brain has just wiped it out of my memory. I've never been so excited over a medicine delivery before! I have severe eczema, which really affects my life, so I'm just hoping this new treatment will either cure it or at least make it a lot better! I'm crying as I type this as I'm so happy! #eczema #eczemasucks #eczemaproblems #newmedicine #dupilumab #sohappyimcrying
Current understanding of the pathogenic processes at work in acute atopic dermatitis (AD) (A) and chronic AD (B). The key cytokines involved in AD, interleukin 4 (IL-4) and IL-13 play similar roles in acute and chronic stages of the disease. These 2 cytokines inhibit epidermal differentiation and enhance production of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). Cells types involved in AD include the dendritic cell (DC), dermal dendritic cell (dDC); eosinophil (EoS); and inflammatory dendritic epidermal cell (IDEC). Shown in the diagram are interferon (IFN), IgE, IL, T helper (Th) lymphocytes, and thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), each of which is found to be highly expressed in atopic dermatitis. .
