The Danish Girl (2015) • Length: 1 hour 59 mins • Summary: Loosely based on real events and set in the 1920's, The Danish Girl tells the story of Lili Elbe's life - her career as an artist, her marriage with Gerda Wegener, the realization of her true self and her transition. • Personal opinion: This film is such an emotional, intense, outstanding story of what I now believe to be one of the bravest women of her time. Not only was the story itself gripping and fascinating, but the acting was absolutely incredible and the soundtrack rounded it off so perfectly. Of course, Lili's story was fascinating and inspiring, but so was Gerda's - not only as Lili's wife, but also in her revolitionary thinking. And the relationship between them was as beautiful as it was heartbreaking at times. Especially the moment ⚠️minor spoiler alert⚠️ when Lili says to Gerda, after her second operation, "how was I ever deserving of such love?" ... it says so much about how deep their love went and how much they cared for one another. Truly a fantastic film, deserving of all its praise. • Favourite character(s): Gerda and Lili • Rating: 9/10 • Recommended to: Anyone who wants to watch a good drama
