Hey guys! Lots of you read about what happened to me in Singapore! Thanks so much!! Now I want to share with you what I learned from that experience. I realize that most of us know of some one with food allergies, eczema, or asthma. I have so much to share with them! Check out my newest blog post and free resources page but more than anything PLEASE share this with people who have one of the big three, allergies, asthma or eczema so that they can be educated and they can educated their families and friends to be prepared when a accident happens. Thanks in advance

Things I CAN do
Be a good mum
Teach Love
♀️ Run
........
Things I CAN'T do Remember
.........
The #MentalLoad in today's society is overwhelming. Managing life has become, at times, unbearable.
This morning I was so focused on being an awesome mum, that I completely screwed up!!! Before school, Mai and I took a trip to the park. On the way to school, I remembered that her #EpiPens were in my car from last night. Normally, schools have an extra set but there is a shortage, meaning that we only have one set.
By the time I got home, a whole two minutes later, I'd forgotten .... again.
As I pulled into the carpark in Jordonstown I remembered ..... again! I quickly found a parking place, began to ring the pharmacy which I normally use to see if they could lend me some, while jumping out of the Jeep to make sure that I really did forget, remember, forget and remember. .... Maybe I forgot that I remembered?!?! Opened the boot and the Jeep began to move towards me .... I FORGOT TO APPLY THE HANDBRAKE!!! Feeling very emotional and totally panicked, I rang a number of pharmacies in the Newry area (stock is still limited), and secured one EpiPen. I got my mum to collect it and leave it in to the school and to order a prescription from the Dr.
I feel emotionally exhausted from the whole process!!! I can do anything, but I can't do everything.
Everything was resolved within 15/20 mins but the fear was terrifying. How could I be so careless with something so important. My most important job is to keep my kids alive, and I almost forgot to do that.
I'll take some time to process the feelings of guilt. The school now has an EpiPen and will receive another when the pharmacy secures more stock and most importantly, Mai is fine.
Let's be kind to each other, let's support each other!! Let's look after ourselves.

Last post for Food Allergy Awareness Week! Here's a picture supporting FARE's Courage project. Tree nuts and peanuts are 2 different categories of food allergies. Peanuts are legumes, and tree nuts are all other typical nuts that you think of such as cashews, pistachios, brazil nuts, hazelnuts, pecans, almonds, walnuts, etc. All food allergies are not alike✨
Always Carry Two.
A recent study by the American College of Asthma, Allergies & Immunology demonstrates that treatment of anaphylaxis may require more than one epinephrine injection, underscoring once again the importance of carrying two epinephrine auto-injectors.
.
BACKGROUND:
Food-related anaphylactic reactions may require treatment with more than one dose of epinephrine. Current guidelines advise patients at risk of anaphylaxis to carry two epinephrine autoinjectors.
.
OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this study was to determine risk factors of multiple dose epinephrine treatment in pediatric food-related anaphylaxis.
.
RESULTS:
642 subjects had allergic reactions. Twenty six percent of patients reported at least one reaction treated with epinephrine for a total of 221 reactions. Among reactions treated with epinephrine, twenty-four reactions (11%) received two or more doses of epinephrine. The most common triggers were milk (30%) and peanut (18%). Milk-triggered allergic reactions (odds ratio (OR) 3.2, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.2-8.4) and treatment with oxygen (OR 5.0, 95% CI 2.0- 12.4) were significant risk factors for requiring multiple doses of epinephrine to treat an allergic reaction.
.
CONCLUSION:
This study demonstrates that treatment of anaphylaxis may require more than one epinephrine injection. Reactions triggered by milk or requiring treatment with oxygen are at higher risk for needing more than one dose of epinephrine. Families of food-allergic children should be counseled on the importance of carrying two epinephrine auto-injectors.

When dealing with an anaphylactic allergy attack, the difference between life and death is just minutes. .
Here's why allergy activists and doctors are pushing airlines to be more proactive in accounting for people with food allergies. .

Food Allergy Awareness Week! My brothers deal with food allergies every second of every day. You never know when a life-threatening reaction can happen. Most reactions are within 15 minutes of ingesting an allergen; however, some reactions can happen hours later but can be just as dangerous. My brothers keep epi-pens with them 24/7. Our family rule is that if their nose is with them, their epi-pen should be with them too✨
Food Allergy Awareness Week! People with food allergies need to hold on and stay connected to the food allergy communities and hopefully there will be a cure some day very soon! My brothers used to eat Kellogg's cereals for breakfast all the time, but now they told us that my brothers should not consume any of their products!! Companies are not required by law to label for sesame or to treat it as an allergen even though it is rising in prevalence and is the 6th most common allergen (yet, still not in the top 8 that are required to be on labels). We must call and ask about the safety of each and every item unless that particular company has chosen to treat sesame as an allergen and produce a label that includes it as an allergen. While lots of companies will answer allergy questions over the phone, Kellogg's refused to provide any information when asked. We are ALWAYS reading labels, but that is not enough! Sesame can be hidden in "spices" or "natural flavors", etc. And, ingredients can change without notice if it makes a difference to a profit margin✨
#alergiaeimunologia #alergia #foodallergy #alergiaalimentar #epipens #himenoptera #adrenalinaautoinjetavel #maeefilha #valedoparaiba #qualidadedevida
