Michael and Daisy live in a tent located within the 520 on-ramp circle in the Montlake neighborhood. Michael flys a sign at the light asking for donations, whether you give or not is a personal choice, what is required is kindness. We should never render negative judgment against those struggling, we don’t know their story, the truths that would help explain and give us empathy. If an unkind comment is made, it says more about the person making the comment than the person it was delivered to. Michael you are beautiful. Rex #kindness #facinghomelessness #justsayhello
Alex was living at Gas Works Park homeless with his girlfriend Karina when we first met, they were 20 years old. Over coffee and a pastry I asked Alex, if he dreamed big, what would it be? Without hesitation he said, “I want to be a Seattle Firefighter, I want to help people.” The next week we were meeting with Seattle Firefighter Tim Taylor who told Alex to study for and pass his GED, study for and pass his EMT licensing, and then get a job with an ambulance service like AMR, when finished, come back and submit your application. While homeless, Alex completed all of it, now working for AMR, two weeks ago he submitted his application to be a Seattle Firefighter, wowWOW!!!!! So veryVERY proud of this young man! Come hear some of his story at the Pacific Science Center’s exhibit on the BLOCK Project beginning June 2nd, showing for four months! Love you Alex, Rex #theblockproject #facinghomelessness #blockarchitects #kindness #justsayhello www.the-block-project.org @alexanderbrooks206

Rio’s makeshift tarp-tent feeling the weight of all the snow. It’s going to be a very difficult week for those living outside, please drop off food, warmth and kindness to those you see in tents, most likely there is one close to where you live or work. It will mean the world to that person and you will be thanked with genuine gratitude. Rex #kindness #facinghomelessness #justsayhello

Michael is 6’-10”, lives in the Montlake neighborhood in a tent, today he received 3 pairs of jeans, long-johns, a heavy duty warm coat, size 15 boots, boxers, a new tent and more, wowWOW, donated by compassionate people in this community, Michael was stunned by the outpouring of support and love for him, standing in the middle of the 520 onramp circle where his tent is, he just started to cry. Lily, who is blind, and Miguel are living together in a card board and wood made shelter in the SODO alongside some semi-trailer trucks. There’s not enough room to do anything but sleep and sit-up inside. Despite the snow and freezing temperatures, and also learning just that morning they are scheduled to be swept, they greeted Damian and me with warm smiles when we pulled aside the blanket that is their front door. We gave them two sleeping bags, two coffees and wished them the very best. I walked away liking them so very much and feeling hate for the systems in-place that create and maintain poverty. This all seems too crazy to be true. Rex #kindness #facinghomelessness #justsayhello
This weekend friends helped Courtney and her family move from LIHI housing in South Lake Union to an apartment in the Greenwood neighborhood, it’s a big deal, another step forward towards Courtney’s dream of living in a home with her family!! This photo is of Addy and Athena in the elevator on one of the many trips moving their stuff, having fun, workin hard! They’ve come a long way from livin homeless in a tent in Woodland Park just a few years ago! Rex #facinghomelessness #kindness #justsayhello
