Malachi has a new buddy . This little lamb is definitely a bottle baby, mama is only concerned with her big strong girl and couldn’t care less about this scrawny little sweetie. We had a very big surprise last night! When we were arriving home from dinner we had 10 cows in our yard!! Thankfully they went into our pasture so we could lock them in for the night. This morning I got up early to go watch them. Turns out they are teenaged cows that wandered off, crossed our creek, and came over to our farm. The grass is always greener, right?!?! Lol! This post was a hard one for me! Not only because it has been a crazy week but also because I wanted to share something close to my heart. Not to mention that my family came down with some kind of cold that has made us all tired and a little sniffly. I have been slacking on my #farmsteadersholiday posts. I want to combine day 14: Family with day 15: Love. I thought long and hard on family, and wanted to share something about myself with you all. . . I am an only child. I always hated it! My parents wanted more children, but I was it. My little dog Charlie, who was a Toy Rat Terrier, was a good substitute but not the same. Even as a child, I worried about my future children, not having aunts and uncles. I was very close with my extended family, and had a great childhood. But there is something that siblings experience that I always wished I had. . . I lost both of my parents at an earlier age. I was 19 when my mom passed and 24 when my dad had a fatal heart attack. In many ways I was an orphan. But I never was! I had so many amazing people in my life who loved and supported me. My extended family was always there for me and loved me. I had great friends whose families became my own. I married into a family where I gained a mother and a father, brothers and sisters, neices and nephews, grandparents, and more cousins.. I was blessed with 4 amazing kids of my own. I get to watch them be siblings (which is sometimes kinda scary). I LOVE the FAMILY that God has given me. I thank him for all my blessings! My family is larger than I ever would have dreamed. I am blessed and so thankful for what I have. I hope you all cherish the moments that you get to have with the special people in your life! Did you accomplish any of your goals from 2018? It's great to look back on the year and think of your own acievements. At first, you may only see the things you did not accomplish. Push those aside. What did you accomplish? Write them down and be proud of yourself! . . In the begining of 2018, one of my goals was to learn how to finally use my DSLR camera. I have had this camera for a few years and did use it but only on automatic mode. I knew I could be taking way better pictures, I just did not know where to start and did not want to read a 500 page book that confused the heck out of me. My sweet hubby let me splurge on an online photography course with @clickitupanotch. It was great! It was a 4 week course where you work at your own speed. She has video tutorials, written instructions, cheat sheets, and weekly challenges for you to get your camera working and practice those new skills. I loved it! I finally learned how to use my camera and can understand most of the photography lingo now. I have a lot more to learn and I know that I am still a beginner but I am not longer afraid to use my camera. . . Here are a few of the pictures I took for Christmas. The snow was so beautiful that day! In the middle of our school day, I stopped everything and made the kids put on some nice Christmas clothes. We rushed outside and I told them to take their coats off. That did cause some tears for my youngest two. But they did it. One picture picture of my youngest daughter is dark but sometimes you'll have that. I am still proud that I learned a new skill this year. Can't wait to get even better at it next year. Since we moved to our farm, we’ve enjoyed countless, incredible sunsets. I try very hard to stop and enjoy every one. What always strikes me (besides the natural beauty of the sunset) is the quiet... the neighbor’s cows and roosters, and our chickens are usually starting to rest and rarely do I hear a car or airplane.
