I remember the moment I wrote this poem. I was the new manager of a new @rumiscave . It was freezing outside and so cold inside, so I made a fortress for myself out of electric heaters but my fingers were still cold as I typed. It was the late, after hours during the month in the Islamic Calender called Rabi ul Awwal, the first spring, the month the Prophet Muhammed (saw) was born. The people that I was around were busying themselves going to gatherings of remembrance and circles of light to remember the Messenger (saw) and worship their Lord. It was inspirational to witness and be a part of. The days were gloomy, the sun was setting early, but here we were on trains and buses seeking Allah. I too was also going on my own inward journey, deepening my connection to the path that I follow and pursuing a closer connection to my Lord. Dhikr was constant upon my tongue The Names of Allah - Al Awwal, Al Akhir, Al Zahir, Al Baatin (The First, The Last, The Manifest, The Hidden) and an abundance of Salatul Fatihi (The prayer of the Opening) so much so that at times I felt like I was drowning whilst standing. At times I felt like I was drifting out of this world whilst still being present. All I wanted was Him, all I yearned for was Him, Great and Glorious is He above anything we could ever imagine.
I often wonder what causes human beings in the heart of the Concrete Jungle, in the depth of the Dunya, in the belly of Babylon - to seek God, to orient themselves in His direction, to strive for a reality that seems untangible - when everything around them calls them to all that isn’t sacred, that isn’t Holy, that isn’t God - somehow there we were, trying. This to me is a miracle.I remember Shaykh Babikir telling us that the people who remember God in the heart of the city sparkle like stars to the angels in the heavens - because we are so rare we stand out. This poem was born out of that place and is a dedication to those who seek God, The Sacred, The Most High when everything around them says they shouldn’t, they still try. This poem is for you. Be brave enough to love. Be brave enough to let go. Be brave enough to go deep into the depths that hurt you the most, that’s how you are able to heal.

Her Legacy will keep on growing
Her Legacy will keep on showing
And her name not unknowing
Somtimes, sometimes sometimes
SHE leaves a Legacy too
