PSA: As many of you know, our Catdaddy not only has a fulltime (bring home the kibble) job, but he is also a volunteer firefighter in our small community. Over this last weekend he spent most of his Saturday and Sunday on fire calls. Yesterday's fire was exceptionally sad. It was a tough house fire, that resulted in the loss of the family cat. Catdad was the one who found the kitty, which broke his heart. So today, we want to remind you all of the importance of sharing with first responders that you have pets inside. CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit crews take advantage of the favorable weather conditions to conduct a prescribed fire operation in the South Lake Tahoe area. Agencies coordinate closely with local county and state air pollution control districts and monitor weather conditions carefully prior to prescribed fire ignitions to help decrease the dispersal of smoke and to verify how effectively fuels will be consumed.

Last week CAL FIRE Pajaro Valley Fire attended a Children’s Day Career Event at Alianza School in Watsonville, CA, and interacted with over 600 students grades K-8. Students in attendance learned about firefighting, fire safety, and prevention. Firefighters from CAL FIRE San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit along with our partners from the @castateparks completed a 14-acre prescribed burn near the observation platform at the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park last week. This prescribed burn provides important inter-agency training opportunities to wildland firefighters, as well as helps to reduce the risk of wildfire in the area. This burn is part of a long-term strategy at the State Park to reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfire and to maintain rare Ponderosa Pine sandhills habitat. I love having candles around, lighting them up so the apartment smells amazing, and I’ve been collecting them since high school. However pretty candles might be though, they are a leading cause of home fires and deaths, and I know that I haven’t always used the right precautions when using them in the past. A plugged up dryer vent almost caused a fire in this customers home. She had to buy a new dryer because it destroyed the old one. It could have been much worse. This was a little job I did for @mrs.toolpig and her company. I have to do a few of these for her until we can get the new guy trained. Don’t be like this lady and wait until it’s too late. Please inspect your dryer vent at least once a year if not more. Take the ends off at the dryer and the outside vent. Stick your camera in there as far as you can go and snap some pictures. If there is any build up at all clean it out yourself or hire someone. There is a reason survivalists use dryer lint as fire starter.
