First can we all just look at Ivy with her new friend Mr. Snuggles. Ugh my heart is constantly just a melted puddle of mush with this sweet girl. Scroll through to see her try and eat Mr. Snuggles

This month is celiac awareness month and I want to start sharing more tips on living life with food allergies. I know how challenging it can be to have one or multiple allergies, ESPECIALLY in the beginning. That’s why you can find not only recipes on my site but other resources that can help you live your best life with allergies.
.
Right now let’s talk about being your own allergy advocate or in the case of parents with allergy kids teaching your kids to be their own advocate. What does this mean? It means you (or your kid) are in charge of YOUR own allergy. And as soon as your kid is old enough to talk and ask for food they need to understand this as well. Being your own allergy advocate means you shouldn’t assume restaurants know what they’re talking about. It means you shouldn’t assume friends or family remember. It means you need to speak up and be clear about what you can and can’t eat. I know it’s tough for some of us because we don’t want to ruffle feathers or be a pain. But when it comes to your health don’t be scared to ask questions again and again! Don’t leave it up to others to keep you safe from your allergen. It’s not about assuming the worst in everyone. It’s just the opposite. Assume your friends and family mean well but understand they will make mistakes because they don’t live with allergies, you do so always speak up! For more on this topic head over to my site and search “live life with food allergies”.
Got a phone call from my middle’s school saying she was having a mild allergic reaction to strawberries. Minutes later, was told they called 911 because her throat was swelling. Midway to her school, they tell me to meet her at the hospital. Much medicine and fluids later, she is now on observation to make sure it doesn’t get worse and continues to get better. Hopefully she can go home soon. But if you see more gray hair on me, know it’s things like this that are doing me in Now to make an allergy appointment and to see if she can get an epipen. #foodallergies #foodallergiesarereal #strawberry #thankanurse #thankadoctor #thankanambulancedriver #thankfulforambulances #memorialhospital
Enough said!

Yes, I began this journey Originally to gain my health back! To take control of what I had lost, even down to the hair loss because my body was depleted! .
.
Fast forward ♀️ to a year and a half! TODAY, Not only has my health improved greatly, my energy is up and the mindset catches the hubs off guard quite a bit .......................
.
But more importantly, this journey is being the best example, to not only my team, but these lil’s of mine! I also hope to help guide them with healthier choices and a healthier lifestyle, while finding the balance in life!!
.
Well, Mission accomplished when this lil one, not only LOVES his morning Rooster “Mama time”, but he loves jumping, laughing and “showing me up” as much as he can!
.
This is why THIS works for me!! I’m still filling my bucket❤️, but I’m present and ever more in love with the small wins!
I ate this….and by this I mean multiple
Because I felt like it.
And I enjoyed every sugary bite of it!
Sure they are #glutenfree but in NO WAY does that mean they are “healthy” and full of nutrients.
But you know what? Eating these cookies today was totally worth it!
My mom is an amazing baker! I am not a huge dessert fan, but I LOVE cookies. I have loved baking cookies with my mom ever since I was a young girl, so it has a special place in my heart. Baking cookies literally makes me giddy….
As a nutritionist, I want to be REAL with you. I don’t eat perfect all the time and in fact I feel better when I listen to my body and let myself have a treat every once in a while. When I learned how to properly fuel my body I realized I could feel satisfied after eating 1 or 2 cookies rather than….12?
YES, all those colourful, real food pictures we see are what our bodies NEED. The Instagram world of nutrition can be a picture perfect healthy world. That can be intimidating & seem overwhelming… like “I don’t have time to make all those healthy meals!” It doesn’t have to take up all of your time. What I want you to remember is that learning to eat a more nutrient dense diet is a JOURNEY. Learning to master a healthy diet is a crucial part of taking control of your food sensitivities. It happened one step at a time.
*while in the process of working on your gut health + during an elimination diet you should avoid sugar to allow for better results, however it doesn’t have to be forever!
Being a mom is hard.
.
Being a mom to a child with several food allergies is even harder. Especially when you make the decision to leave your child in the care of trained professionals as you go out to make a living each and every day. BUT, you do it and you trust that your child is in good hands because you have prepared for them to be.

I remember the very first time that Maya had an anaphylactic reaction to egg at home as a baby. The paramedics could not come soon enough, and every thing just seemed to be going in slow motion as I held my cyanotic, lethargic little baby in my arms. She eventually threw it all up and her colour came back as the paramedics arrived shortly after. Any way my point here is that food allergies are a very serious thing. To the point where it can become a matter of life or death. We carry benadryl and epipens around with us every where we go, and of course her daycare is equipped with everything they need as well.
.
Every single time that Maya's school calls my heart rate naturally increases. Because I never want to get THAT call. Yesterday I did, because a new staff member made a mistake that elicited an allergic reaction in Maya's body. All I could do was Thank God that it was my day off and that I was able to get there within minutes to control it before it got any worse. Although my baby is okay and that is all that matters I still felt the need to write this post. I am not here to make any one feel bad or to point fingers because we all make mistakes. Maya's daycare staff and facility has dealt with the matter in the best way (they don't take these things lightly and neither do we) trust me! BUT maybe if people know more about the seriousness and severity of food allergies then they can do their best to avoid making such mistakes. If any of you want to know more then I am here to help and will always try my best to, simply because this is a topic that is near and dear to my heart!
