Happy Canada Day!  When you aren't in your own country for special occasions like this one, you make waaaay more effort than if you were at home. Hence baking my first cake. Ever!! Inspired by @allergynana, I decided to make the same cake she baked using @natashaskitchen's pretty simple recipe (youtube.com/watch?v=p6h65CApWn8). Other than using two berries instead of three (no blackberries!) and swapping out the eggs for aquafaba (of course!), I pretty much did everything else the same. It turned out pretty well for my first attempt... except for the terribly done #mapleleaf at the top, LOL! Did you do/make/eat anything special for Canada's birthday? . P.S. My little guy loooooves fajitas -- especially when we add this yummy 3-ingredient guacamole to the mix. I thought it was high-time to introduce him to tortillas & his fave green dip, and was super thankful we've added sunflower oil to his list of safe foods... since the only brand I could find contained what seems to be a very common ingredient here in Ireland! . But... as if #foodallergies weren't confusing enough for us adults, my little smarty pants pointed out the huge sunflower on the packaging (swipe right) before I had even paid for it. I keep reminding him that #sunfloweroil is OKand #sunflowerseeds are NOT , but jeez, that's a lot for a 3.5 year-old to wrap his head around. . Anyway, the kiddo loved his new crunchy snack and I breathed a sigh of relief that yet another meal that included sunflower oil was uneventful... because, yes, I still worry.Do you have any weird allergy rules that you've successfully explained to your kids? From the time I first heard allergy-aware babysitters were a thing, I've been happy to shout from the rooftops about what a great resource  @weneeddatenight is for local allergy parents. First, I got to interview some of their allergy-friendliest sitters for a series I was working on (bit.ly/allergy-aware-babysitters-1), then they agreed to help out at #AllergyMom Meetups... and, well, the rest is history. Seeing that allergy parents often find it difficult to leave their littles behind with someone they trust, it is HUGE when you actually find trusted care. And coming from a mama who has pretty much thrown #selfcare out the window, having an option like this gives me the freedom to put myself (and my relationship) first... sometimes! #weneeddatenighttoo . The truth is, bcause my little guy has always been a baaaad sleeper, we only booked one of Datenight's sitters for the first time this fall. I loved the entire process: (a) browsing through a list of capable caregivers in my area, (b) conducting a Skype interview, (c) booking a sitter, and (d) seeing my son's happy, smiling face when the hubs and I came home from our afternoon date. Thrilled that allergy-aware care actually exists! And with the holiday season just around the corner, I thought you would be too. Being unable to find local peanut butter alternatives that don't have a "may contain peanut" warning here in Ireland, I realize how lucky I am that my husband's family lives on the border of Northern Ireland and I can order from this AMAZING company (that only delivers to the UK): Not only are @zeinafoods' products free of peanuts, egg, and sesame, they have a drool-worthy selection of #nutbutters that I am SO excited to add to our pantry. Haven't tried them yet -- still need to pop over to a post office in "the north" to pick up my delivery -- but I will definitely be back with a review when I've finally tasted these yummy looking things ➡ swipe right a few times to see/learn more. So excited to have some more healthy protein options to add to breakfast and snack time. . Also, question for #lifeforcefoods and @meridianfoods: Respectfully wondering how difficult it would be to have dedicated lines and/or a cleaning & testing process that would allow you to open your product up to a new, niche, and very loyal market.
