[brew tutorial below] I BREWED COFFEE THAT I ROASTED THIS MORNING AND IT WASN’T TERRIBLE! I’m so excited about this. If you haven’t followed along with my DIY Smart Roaster build, go to my profile and check out my Story Highlight. Really fun to build and I have a long ways to go to finalize it and get better at roasting but I feel like I had some beginners luck with my first sample roast. I roasted 15 g for around 9 minutes and the brew had flavor notes of citrus, shortbread, and chocolate.

melodrip is a diffuser that gently sprinkles water on your brew bed which helps to reduce the impact water agitation has on the extraction of the brew. It’s an ingenious tool that every coffeesmith should have in their toolbelt. I’m still working on fine-tuning my method, but in essence I borrowed a method from the melodrip guide and adapted it a bit:

1.) Pour 45 g water (95 C) in the center of the brew bed. Let bloom for 45 seconds.
2.) With melodrip about 1 inch away from brew bed, pour 30 g water into melodrip and allow it to cover the grounds.
3.) Raise melodrip up until it’s 4 inches away from the brew bed and sprinkle another 30 g water. This is to incorporate the grounds stuck on the side of the filter.
4.) Lower melodrip back to 1 inch above the brew bed and continue pouring 30 g intervals until you reach your desired brew weight.

P.S. I use 15 g coffee and 240 g water for a 1:16 brew ratio for this.
