Made some progress today at @fromourfarm_ , thought I'd post pics of the process. It ain't pretty work tearing sticky tape off cardboard in the stinking hot sun.... but it's a cheap, effective way of keeping that horrible, inedible stuff called grass away from trees! Who invented grass anyway?! What a waste of time and resources it is....

A few years ago a very special forever flower friend brought us some rose hips to add to our fall arrangements from a naturalized hedge near her seaside cottage. I decided to see if we could start them from the seeds. After spending the winter in our fridge They germinated easily and we grew them on. Now a healthy hedge supplying us with lovely foliage for summer bouquets, habitat for song birds, a windbreak for some perennials, buckets of rose hips for our fall arrangements and food for some feathered and furry creatures....and a bee haven for a few weeks in early summer. With literally no thorns they are easy to work with. Rosa Multiflora is a hardy vigorous rose commonly used as a rootstock for grafting less hardy roses. This rose can be invasive however with our constant harvesting and annual early season pruning we manage to keep her in check. Appreciating all of the attributes this almost thorn free native has to offer Another way to eliminate carbon footprint by choosing local grown!
