I spent most of Saturday afternoon here at Old Westbury Gardens, after doing some client plant shopping at a trade only plant nursery nearby on Long Island. Because I frequent this nursery, I’ve driven by the front entrance of this estate-turned-public-garden over a hundred times and would say to myself often, I’ll stop in there one day…⁣ ⁣ Omg I should have gone years ago!! It was mesmerizingly beautiful in a way that only a historic property with gardens shaped by expert horticultural care over decades can be. Allees (an “alley” in a formal garden) of beech and linden trees (pictured here) carve out the massive property in a way that makes you feel you have gone back in time while being lost in a dream.⁣ ⁣ It’s a fairy tale plant land…like something out of Downton Abbey…blooming wisteria perfectly trellised to 19th-century stone walls, a grove of fifteen foot tall lilacs, and a fifty-foot long hand assembled birch arbor covered by climbing roses…I could go on and on. The property was built in 1906 under the direction of the English designer George A. Crawley.⁣ ⁣ I found so much inspiration here and was absolutely captivated by the space. I highly, highly recommend!!

This client requested the most feminine, girly pink tulips we could find last year to plant in honor of her newborn daughter. Very satisfying to see the result was as hoped, courtesy of fab bulbs from @shopterrain in “Whispering dream” and “Wedding gift.”

Just completed! This space was designed for two artists and their family who wanted to overhaul their backyard to make it a focal point. ⁣ ⁣ I especially like projects where we can design the lighting and select the furniture since both are so integral to the overall look and feel of the final result. Bonus when we can make it super easy to enjoy no matter the time of day - all outdoor lighting here can easily be controlled from a smart phone via an app! ⁣ ⁣ Photo credit to my husband @cory_captures

When I was a kid, spring meant planting things like tomatoes and squash and sleepovers with friends camped out in the backyard under the stars. We could smell the orange blossoms and pick flowers we would braid into each other’s hair. It was the magic of spring ✨✨✨ These days, my favorite spring activity is going out hunting for the perfect plants for a client project...or my own little patch of paradise

Highlight from the first planting of 2019 this week! Ranunculus do well in these cooler temps we’ll have here in NYC for the next 4-6 weeks or so. The luminous surface of the petals provides a mirror-like reflection and flash of light to pollinators, such as bees and butterflies. They can’t resist...but then neither can I! They look almost too perfect to be real.
