Introducing April's Gardener of the Month: @kimmyhen! With Earth Day coming up this month, she definitely will get you in the spirit!
Burpee: If you were to give yourself a "gardener name," what would it be?
@kimmyhen: I would be the Wildlife Gardener because my favorite part of gardening is the benefits it brings to the environment! I like to plant specifically for pollinators and love seeing the birds, bees, hummingbirds, frogs, etc. I also hatch butterflies. I grow butterfly weed to help save the monarchs and bee balm for the bees. I try using only organic fertilizers and supplies that are better for the environment.

I'm Tanya and if we've not met before I'd like to properly introduce myself. I'm a soap maker, beekeeper, organic gardener, wild food forager, and resident of the beautiful Isle of Man. I've also been sharing my journey of the grow-your-own to make-your-own experience on my website and YouTube channel over the past nine years. I see gardening not only as a healthy lifestyle choice but as open rebellion. A revolt against the idea that everything you need in life having to be bought. Growing a garden also creates a direct connection between people and nature, and we all need more than that. Aside from my presence on social media and on my own channels I'll soon be a regular guest on our national radio station @manx_radio -- There will be live updates from the garden and tips for growing your own among some exciting field trips. You'll be able to tune in live both here on the Island and online. More to come on that next week

Happy first day of spring, y’all! ☀️ In celebration, here’s a flashback to the cutest swaddled watermelon from last year’s garden. The watermelon hammock Again, never to be confused with the banana hammock.

Our garden space is maximized with the use of vertical gardening tricks like this. Do you garden vertically? What’s your favorite garden hacks? Do tell!
I am in love with this new shirt. I was also wearing this shirt today when I agreed to give a presentation at the library next month on Vegetable Gardening 101. Public speaking is NOT my favorite thing, but I’m ALWAYS willing to discuss plants. And if I have knowledge that will help others learn to grow their own foods, then I am happy to share! Now to start brainstorming ideas!
