Class theme of Opposites at a G3-5 school class today. Whilst the students were all arriving I asked them to draw a picture or write a special message to give to the person on the mat opposite them to keep for the class. My lovely yogi opposite me gave me 3 including this gorgeous affirmation So powerful. At the end of the class she asked me if I was going to keep mine and I told her absolutely! It’s going straight into my notebook where I can see it every day! She also told me that after a “super stressful day” it was good to get to yoga and “just let it all go”. Story yoga with one of my favourite books this afternoon. In the story, Anna is so happy in her own practice and imagination on her rainbow coloured mats. Her yoga adventures help her make friends with another boy with a hearing impairment and interestingly one of my little yogis in this class also uses hearing aids. She was so brave in her sharing and said “oh I have those things too!” Which the other kiddies didn’t know and they could ask questions about. We designed our own unique yoga mats; some remembered the mandala designs we’ve done before and tried to make their own! They also think the story is based on me because the character of Anna also has curly hair I then used a great tip from my lovely yoga buddy @omskool_yoga and placed coloured “relaxation jewels” on their third eye chakra point for their savasana: I guided them through a colour relaxation with their jewel spreading relaxing, coloured light over their bodies whilst they rested! So on a gloomy, grey Tuesday, facing jet lag head on, my student needs to recharge, rebalance and rest...cue bolsters, blocks, blankets, sand bags and eye pillows. Today I turned up to teach a class and as soon as I walked in the downstairs door I heard “ALISOOOOOOOOOOON!” from one little yogi at the top of the stairs! Knowing that kids are excited for yoga just fills me with so much happiness. I absolutely love sharing yoga with kids and adults and these last 8 months teaching full-time have been some of the happiest of my entire adult life! (and I am by nature a happy and positive person, so this is saying a lot!). Today we were focusing on our fantastic feet and practicing sequencing poses that have feet in different positions.
