⚠️Elwynn Update⚠️ Keep him in your thoughts and prayers please!! . My brofur has been doing really well since his stroke in early January, but for the last few days has seemed "off" to the staff. He was starting to lose his appetite a bit and not pooping enough, so they took him to the vet to do some preventative stuff to keep him from going into GI stasis (the silent bunny killer). . Dr Nick @Glenorafamilypet noticed his tummy felt odd, so he did an ultrasound and found free floating fluid in his abdomen (which is never a good sign). His heart had a slight "gallop" to it as well, so after checking the fluid he drew from Elwynn's abdomen for bacteria, parasites, cancerous cells and abnormal protein levels (it was all good), he did some X-rays of his heart. . Elwynn has an enlarged heart, and that combined with the fluid in his abdomen is indicitave of heart failure. He is also in the early stages of GI stasis. . Dr Nick gave him diuretics and blood pressure meds and a referral to see a vet cardiologist (we can't put him on the meds that help his heart contract until we know he doesn't have any blockages or areas that might burst if put under additional pressure from the meds). Right now he can't see the specialist until the end of May, but they are going to try and fit him in ASAP as it is an emergency . In the mean time my staff are monitoring him to make sure he is eating, drinking and pooping normally and giving him his 2 heart meds, the motility drugs for his gut and some pain killers to make sure he doesn't go into GI stasis. . His ears have warmed up, he has some appetite and is moving around and grooming himself, so he is doing pretty well so far. . He's tolerating his meds and almost back to normal with eating, drinking and pooping. He's even gained a bit of spunk back, jumping up on the arm chair to get a sight line to the staff standing in the kitchen so he can stare them down with one eye until greens or bananas appear. . He has an appointment with the cardiologist next Wednesday, and we will know more at that point. . I took a trip to @glenorafamilypet today to meet Dr Nick and get a check up to make sure everything is in working order before the long weekend is upon us.... I had my second of Poop Watch 2019 this morning, but was lethargic still the last few days so the staff wanted to make sure all is well (cause #imworthit). . Clean bill of health (except for the erroneous assertion that I'm a bit chubby... Lies. I'm simply fluffy. Besides, it's subjective really... Im suddenly hungry...) . More good news in that I don't have to have that thick, sticky, gross laxatives shot down my throat anymore, nor do I have to take the pain meds that enable GusGus to invade my personal space... So all in all... #winning .
